Lucas ignition

I used to own a 1983 Land Rover 88 series III station wagon . It leaked oil everywhere, but just kept on running. With its Lucas ignition it would always run out of tune, I finally converted it with a Petronix electronic ignition conversion, with an optical pickup. It finally ran pretty good, but it...

Virtual show Thread

Phil. I saw your tplsbny on the thread. It seems that w/ 2 1/2 mph bumpers, the quad headlights look pretty good. I have seen 85's with 5mph bumpers and quad lights, they look out of place, actually they look like renault 17 Gordini's. That was one great car, but nothing is more rugged and a survivo...

Nice 87 MK1

I finally got to see your 87 in a picture, very nice, especially since you got it since new via Euro Delivery. I am planning to break my pledge to remain stock, by converting to quad headlights , but I will retain my 2 1/2 mph bumpers. Your 87 is my inspiration. I will source again from German Parts.

Re: Southern California 87 Wolfsburg

Here is my 87 Wolfsburg on its way to stock restoration. Now there is something you don't read everyday! I applaud you for loving the stock 8) Sounds like she is off to a great start. Yes I have decided to go stock this time, I converted my 85 Cabby back in 2000 to quad lights, Euro bumpers etc. Th...

Now that you mention it, the MK 1s are becomming more scarce. On my last trip to P 'N P, I only saw one Cabby. Usually there are several Rabbits and one or two MK I Jettas. The MK II Jettas and Golfs still seem to be plentiful. Having used a 85 Cabby as a daily driver in the late 90's, I experience...

They are a pain, but not like the Passenger side mount. Hi Briano It's been great reading all your past repairs, I learn a lot from those. Anyway I got the how to for this from vintage watercooled A1 mounts. It said it was super easy, actually easy is the correct term. Car now runs great, next moto...

Transmission mount

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x122/wufbergcabby/transmissionmount023.jpg I changed the transmission mount today, as part of my one hour weekend project, ended up being two including cleaning up all the greasy mud that falls into the garage floor. The old mount was already severed, about 6 inch...

I don't see a lot of A1 & A2's running here in LA, California, that means they must be in some junk yard. , but where?

as it is leaking then it can't build the pressures for proper shifting... and that is a possibility. But to change the oil out completely you have to suck out all you can from the tranny fill hole... run for a mile. Then suck and refill a couple of more times and the fluids will be totally changed....

Auto transmission Fluid change

It has been just about a month since I got the Wolfsburg, New O2 sensor, New Catalyst, Oil change , etc. The car had this leak in its Transmission pan area, so I decided to change the Tranny Fluid and put a new gasket I source from German Parts. As the Bentley said , 4 bolts hold the pan. That is so...

Go to a good hardware store, you can get rigid waterline for Ice Makers, or you can run by a wrecking yard and aquire new to you.... If they are broken you can replace them with good old rubber vacuum line. Those rigid vacuum hoses are pretty small in diameter, I guess conversion to flexible is als...

Vacuum hoses

Where can I buy those vac. hoses for a cabriolet, its those stiff ones , not the flexible ones you can buy in any auto convenience store. I remember I was able to buy them in any VW dealer back in the 90's.. Do they still sell them in any VW parts counters?
