Question regarding - Vacuum Hoses 4 90 Cabbie?

Hi everyone - I am definitely having a vacuum leak power problem? anytime i make a sharp left the car dies ----

My question is what size of vacuum hose do I need ?

Is silicone better than the cloth braided ones?

Can i change the Hard white plastic ones as well?

Vacuum issues are a source of pain every now and again.

You will find a reverence there to what size tubing you will need, part numbers, as well as vacuum diagrams.

Cabby-info.com is a great resource that many of us use. Kamy, one of the moderators here, owns and runs that site. I swear she has more info there about these cars than VW.

My expierence with silicone tubing is that it breaks down over a couple of years. You are much better off to use the same sort of stuff that the car came with. It should be available at your local auto parts store.

Any idea why it would die with a sharp turn - my fuel pumps have been replaced whines some times still.....another issue... ????

In-tank pump is starving the main for fuel.
If the in-tank pump was replaced then your issue is with the connector hose.

You can replace both pumps the accumulator and a variety of hoses with one "in-tank" pump, 6ft of hose and a new type of filter.

Vacuum Lines

Pastic Tubes: Outside diameter is 4mm (VW part #N 020 139 1) Which you can get at a hardware store, look for water feed line for a ice-maker.

Rubber Hose: Inside diameter is 5mm (VW part #N 020 291 1) Which you can buy in bulk at a auto parts store near you.

Wowo you guys are simply awesome - I will try and replace the vacuum lines first and see if that fixes anything - I will definitely have someone else look into that fuel pump conversions since I wouldn't be able to do it myself.

Is there any areas re:vacuum lines I should be careful with? sensitive ?

The hard plastic lines do crack easily as they are aged, and don't pull vacuum hoses off but either cut or pry them.
