It hooks up to the connection in the middle of the fuel distributor. You remove the fuel line that's there now and hook up th elines to teh distributor and the line you removed.
BTW the pic is NOT the kit you get, the one they sell for CIS has Lots more stuff and is higher quality. The one in the pic is for Chevy types.

Mine had the valve cover breather elbow patched up with duct tape, courtesy of the previous owner. I had to deal with it when I changed the valve cover gasket last weekend. I found it was all cracked and split under the tape. The FLAPS didn't have it, so I had to order it from the VW dealer. I gobbed the old one back together with orange gasket sealer in the mean time, 'cause it was a beautiful weekend. You simply can't have a convertible out of service when it's 90 degrees and sunny!

When I was filling my oil I put in 3 qarts then started the engine to add the slick50, it ran like crap until I closed the valve cover back up.....

It's all connected, thanks to the PCV system.
I once was checking the oxygen sensor on my old Volvo 240 with an oscilloscope, and played around a little with that. It was kind of interesting to pull up the dipstick while watching the O2 sensor output -- it would flat-line on the lean side for a second or two, then return to alternating lean/rich as the Lambda system compensated for the extra air. Seat the dipstick again, and it would flat-line rich for a second as the system adjusted the fuel mixture trim again.
The old open-loop L-Jetronic systems on VW Buses were infamous for running horribly if there was any kind of false air. Leaving the oil cap loose, or even really bad valve cover gaskets, could screw up the idle.
