81 Rabbit Running / 84 Cab dead??

Post by neilson3031 »

Image  This is my '81

But my 84 has been dead for a while now. It turns over, I get fuel to the dizzy but barely get a spit to the fuel lines. Is the plunger screwed?? Any one have a fix??

the plunger could be gummed up. I've heard you can take it out, clean it with gas and then use some high grit (read 1000 grit) sandpaper to smooth it up a bit and put it all back together.

Be very carefull to rinse the plunger and make sure all left over grit is off the pluger before reinstalling it though. Granted, I haven't done this myself, but I've read several times of others doing this and getting good results.

BTW, that bunny looks damn hot. Any more pics?

Thanks for the info, hopefully this weekend I'll get a chance to try that out, as for pics, not at this time, the bunny needs a bath, will post some more soon. Thanks again. I'll let you know how it works out. 8)

Well it's good to have another one from north of the border join us. Welcome aboard.

How are you making out getting the '84 going?

Thanks

Got the dizzy out, and partly taken apart last night, taking my time, so that I can get things clean, and also to ensure that I can (hopefully) get it back together. Sadly I am starting to think that this isn't the problem. It seems to be in working order. Will update as things go.

I took the dizzy out, cleaned it up, it semmed to me to function as it should. Got it back in and still nothing. But I noticed as I was putting it back in the there was a air outlet?? on the backside to which I could not find any connect for?? Is it an air outlet/inlet and where would the hose actually come from?? I am going to check out my bentley book for it.

And I actually notice that it is a '85, I must had had the model year confuson with an old truck that I had. [/b]

an air outlet? are you talking about the servo for advancing the dist when thromping down the gas? if you have an unplugged vaccume line and one missing from the dist, then I would find it and you may resolve your issues.

Not sure what it is that you are referring too. And I cannot find a reference to it in the bentley manual, but will upload a pic it a minute or so.

I still don't believe that there is a problem with the fuel pressure, at least up to the dizzy. You should see the amount of fuel that sprays out of the banjo bolt (the one from the filter to the dizzy).

I really don't want to pull the injectors.
