Tranny I.D. #?

Post by Eliot Rothman »

My wife has a 85 Cabriolet Wolfburg edition. I need to find out what 5spd tranny is in it. It is either a 013, or a 093. so I am told. Any numbers that I have found (raised or stamped) don't tell me anything. I have found the #s 020. Can you help with any info?

Basicly, what you need to look at is the stamping right on the bottom of the tranny where it bolts to the engine. There is a area there that is stamped and the the first letters should be something like 9a, AGB, AUG, 2Y, or smething like that. 020, is the tranny type, which is standard for any A1 Volkswagen.
