Brake pad suggestions
I'm getting ready to replace my front rotors and pads. I'm mainly interested in safe, quiet functioning - not a performance driver. Was wondering if ceramic pads are worth the extra money. Any comments/suggestions welcomed. Thanks

Yes. They are more quiet, and dustless, which means that you don't have to clean the rims as much.
Be warned that if you go to a Pep-Boys, then make sure that your pads and rotors are vented.
The last time I went to them they only had solid for the 93... I had to have them look up the 83 rabbit GTI to get the correct pads for my vented rotors..

While not ceramic I've been using mintex red box pads on all my VW's and Audi's for many years. They have always been quiet and always super reliable.

Well to be honest, I got a hell of a deal on Hawk Ceramic performance pads. 6 boxes for 30 bucks, Pep-boys were getting rid of them for bad sales....Bought all they had at the Dist Centers in Indy, and Atlanta then I asked for the son's discount........ Wow, $30 for 6 boxes. I wish you hadn't told me that.... A single set of 4 from German Auto Parts costs 75 bucks.

Not bad Brian. I havent used hawk pads but have heard good things about them.

My hawk ceramic pads didn't come with anti rattle clips. Do I need to buy some or are they not needed with these?

Most pads for VW's don't come with anti-rattle clips ever.Thicketmatt wrote:Brian,

At least not the once I have been buying for 30 years.
I use the stock clips, then I use the RED "Disc Quiet" on the piston side of the pad in 2 spots 180 degrees out, and a drollop on each of the front caliper fingers. I don't ever have any rattle.
