On my Diesel I had a block heater that was in the number 1 freeze plug hole It worked great.
Cold weather, make sure your battery is up to snuff, and that you have replaced all your grounds.
Installing the heat soak relay allows more power to your starter and takes the load off the ignition switch,

Hi I have a block heater on my '87.
Works great, even in temps to -40.
It's installed on the back of the engine, one of the frost plugs are removed and the heater is installed.
Since I park the cabbys for the winter, it has been a few years since I have used it.
Thing to remember is to let the car idle for a couple of minuets after starting to ensure the fluids are moving.
Also (it is too easy to forget) to unplug the car before driving.
You should be able to get one at your local auto parts store.

Wouldn't the long unwinding cord behind the car be a clue?CalAltaDubber wrote:Hi I have a block heater on my '87.

That is why I left my plug out during the winter and "tucked" it back under the hood.
I remember once the Wife was honking the horn as she had backed out of the garage, and I finally went out to see what the matter was. "The garage door is acting funny!" Push the button.. the garage door came down just fine until it hit the extension cord that was still plugged in and then went back up.. Oh well the joys of ownership and a blonde wife....She didn't see the 30 foot of ORANGE cord leaving the Garage?
I will say that there is a hell of a lot of difference between a 165 degree thermostat and a 195....which I finally changed out today.

Well, if Vanagon camper guys can forget to unplug their shore power... when the freakin' cord is right there as they approach the driver's door and quite visible in the mirror! Seriously, I don't get how they could miss it...briano1234 wrote:Wouldn't the long unwinding cord behind the car be a clue?

If you're afraid of forgetting, you could make a bright, laminated note that you put somewhere on/in the car every time you plug it in.
