The past week in Car repair

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

Well today I got to work on my Cabby.... No not that the kids did anything to it. I took the passenger seat out crammed myself in to the passenger side on my back head under the kneebar and had my son drive up and down the street as I was looking for the mysterious noise/squeak from hell.

Found it, it was the heater box rubbing against the kneebar. I shoved some closed cell foam up there I will have to wait to see if that resolved it. I decided to take the Drivers seat out, and vacuum, then use a carpet cleaner on the carpet.... Can you say GROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I personally blame Terri and her frigging cokes.......... :)

Whilst it was out I have come up with a quick fix on the 90's window controllers/ water migration. All I have to do is to make it install it and pic it.

So, despite it being 109°F in the van today Image....

Before:

After:

I removed the air conditioning plenum in the Westy. Much more headroom for the rear seat occupants and MUCH more airflow up to the front seats!! Before it was a breeze on fan speed 4, now it's a friggin' hurricane on speed 3!!

I'll be installing a vent grille over the hole and will be hiding that wire loom and filling in that groove with something (paint, molding, etc.)

The upper bed mattresses are still out: the covers are getting washed, and I might be replacing the 20-year-old foam.

Wow, a whole week, and all I had to do was to change a set of plugs on the blue bunny. Got both to pass emissions,,, that is a big yeah as the blue one Just squeaked by.....but passing is all that matters......
The Green one flew through the emissions.

Been SOoooooooo busy lately and the weather being absolutely horrible, I haven't had much time to spend on baby gurl. But Friday I actually got a chance to "patch"(rig) the hole in my exhaust. Thank you Fosters! Sounds great Surprisingly quiet to tell the truth. Tomorrow I will be fabbin up some 6x9's for the rears. I'll be mounting them inside the panels so should look great and sound awesome. Also had the opportunity to chase done a few wires. so far so good. Didn't see anything of concern other then some random fog light wiring. Removed that real quick! Grounds looked good, definitely going to replace them all in the not so distant future, no cause for worry. Im pretty sure those nasty fog light wires was my drain issue, so we shall see. A little side note/question... After the patch went on the exhaust, it seems like its shifting fine...no hang ups, just when its running for a while but not bad at all. Is this just coincidence or would that have effected the vacuum? In any sense you guys, and girls are extremely helpful and much appreciated

Got it running, now to fix all of the other stuff. Once it was running I found out that the alternator is not alternating or the regulator is not regulating which ever one the battery is not charging. Could be some on the many connections that are disentigrating.

Been a hell of a two weeks for me. Last week I replaced the timing chains in a friends VR6 Jetta. That means the transmission has to be pulled since the chains are on the backside of the motor. Some of you may remember that I did this to my Jetta when my lower timing chain broke. :banghead:

However, this time it was to keep him from having to replace valves like I did. So along with new chains & chain guides, we replaced the pass side output shaft seal, the clutch and the drivers side CV axle. We started on Wed night, worked for 2 hours, same on Thursday and then after I got home from work on Friday, we got to work on it again at 2pm. Wed & thurs were just breaking things down. By 10pm Friday night, the car was on the ground and running. Did some body work to it on Saturday and he drove it home on Sunday. Over the weekend I also did some work to my lawn tractor.

Today, I finally got my valve cover gaskets replaced on the A6. Also changed the rear cam plugs (easy to do, but hard to see). While I was doing that, Cristine took all the plastic engine covers and detailed the snot out of them. Then after I got everything back together, she wen to down on the underside of the hood and the rest of the engine bay. Then we did an oil change in the Beetle. A nice solid 5 hours of car work today. BTW, valve cover gaskets on a 2.7T motor is pretty simple, it's the hours of tearing all manner of crap out of your way that takes so damn long.

End result is that my A6 no longer smells like an oil burning furnace while it's running. I'm very happy about that. Tomorrow I hope to get to a few things on Cristine's Scirocco. If all goes well, I might actually get to work on the cabby and my scirocco before the winter gets here.

Dam do I feel the slacker. An oil change on the Pissan Nathfinder, a brake pad change on a Honder, and the last of my cars to pass emissions. Plus, I cleaned all my tools (couldn't believe how dang dirty they were.)... Well most of them anyways.

I still am looking for some missing tools... but I will find them....eventually.

Didn't do a damn thing, but I diagnosed a bad 02 sensor on the blue bunny... Poor mileage, high emissions, rich running. (plugs looked to be burning rich.). Measured wrong....

I did repair my Bentley again, the spine Broke in to three sections.
Cut out all the pages and used about 260 page protectors, and placed each page in a protector.
My Bentley is about twice the size, but the pages can get oil covered any more.

( 400 page protectors was a birthday gift, along with a 4 1/2 inch binder which is just about too small)

Don't forget that there is the PDF version for download here on the site. If any get to greasy, just print out a new copy of the page.

Did some work on a 07' Shadow VLX (600cc) bike that belongs to a co-worker of cristines. Bike sat for a year (in my garage oddly enough) and the carb gummed up (damn ethanol). Managed to free the carb up and get it started after a few hours of plugging away at it and took it for a spin. Fuel filter must be clogged all to hell because after a few miles the bike will sputter and die. Did this to me twice, second time round I pushed the damn thing for half a mile while it cooled down because it was just too hot to stand around with my thumb up my rear.

Today it's the other bikes turns. Cristine and I have washed our respective FJR's and now she's clay baring them and then will wax them. Planning on taking a ride tomorrow morning since we really haven't had a chance to ride due to the high temps we've been having. We ride in full gear so even at 60mph+ 97f feels like 110f.

Might tackle some things on her rocco tomorrow. I've been rather industrious the last few weekends and I see no reason to stop since my waistline has been benefiting from it. There needs to be less of me, much less

Well if I had had to run off he road and hit a mailbox with my passenger side mirror on the van, I wouldn't have done N E thing, save for cleaning the garage, I now have 5 feet of room in front and behind the cabbie...

Oh, and i found a few missing tools.

Yes, it was either Hit the lady in my lane who couldn't talk on a Cell phone and drive her car at the same time, or crowd the side.... I crowded the side and was rewarded by my mirror hitting a defenseless mailbox, and pivoting into the Passenger side window... The window was up, and didn't crack, but the mirror glass shattered...

Wahoo, ordered rear wheel cylinders last night, getting closer to completely finishing the complete rebuild of the back part. Next is brake shoes and hardware, shocks and springs

Took my grille off and swapped it out, on the 93, looks pretty good, the inner lights were being the ass.
Reset timing, found one leak in the exhaust, and tightened that co2 sniffer tube. But alas the crack is still on the manifold between 1 and 2 cylinders....
