The past week in Car repair

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

On the plus side, I got the throttle linkage on the Mercedes diesel fixed. The most time-consuming part was re-adjusting it. It's got half a dozen link rods and the adjustment procedure is three full pages in the service manual. (Reminds me of the Cabriolet shift linkage. ;) ) It's much more drivable now that a third of the pedal travel isn't going into taking up slop in the linkage.

Well, 7 days out of surgery, and I changed a leaky valve cover gasket, and made a how-to on it. Then with Christopher's assist I oiled her top frame and have that working a tad better.... so I am getting back into wrenching on cars, and having a good time... Oh, I cleaned her engine 1 can of wd-40, a spray bottle of my cleaner and 1/2 can of wire dry, and eight dollars in quarters and her engine is almost as clean as mine.......Got the vacuum pump out, drew a vacuum on the a/c system, found the leak and re-charged her a/c system..... (and I didn't have to take any nitro to clean it or work on it.........hurrrrrrrrah)

Well nothing new to work on Cabby wise, but I did do the brakes on a 2001 Passant AWD. First time I ever needed my 18 mm socket, and wrench... I thought those useless.....until.................

Now on to tires/alignment for the Pissan Nathfinder.........

Brian, I'm glad to see you are doing soo much better.

I finally got the fuel pump in the audi replaced along with the fuel pump relay which also bit it. Now I have code central, but things are pointing to the fact I may have hurt the battery with all the starting I was trying to do on the side of the highway. Oh well, might be a new battery in the cards.

Meanwhile, not much going on here, just trying to relax a bit.

Lol, so how was work Sir?

I did reset the codes, several times, but they came right back. It wasn't the battery either. Came down to the replacement fuel pump relay. I put the Original one back in and all the codes went away and all my power came back. It's rather nice having the big beast at full strength.

Hoping now to be able to toss some parts at the rocco's and the cabby before much longer.

Didn't work on any of the cars today, but I did work on 2 bikes.

Cristines FJR is now back and ready for the road. I detected a very bad noise in the engine at the same time she had to stop riding due to her having a partial knee blowout last September. Didn't concern myself with it much till March since she couldn't ride anyway. I finally got around to tracing the issue to a failing cam chain tensioner. Having suffered a broken timing chain the jetta a year earlier, no way in hell was I going through that on a bike.

So, I was finally able to get a new tensioner and get it replaced today. Engine no longer sounds like an erratic diesel.

Then, our friend that bought Cristine's previous bike arrived just as I finished the FJR and we replaced the spark plugs in the SV. It was really nice to see the SV again and hear it's familiar engine note. So glad we sold him the bike and not to a total stranger. WE actually get to see the bike this way and we know it's in good hands. Though somehow I'm still doing the damn maintenance to it, go figure :screwy:

Fixed the windshield washer hose that shot off.
Replaced the wipers.
Replaced the cigarette lighter (works really good now).
Washed the bunny to take the grime off of it.... I haven't a clue as to what was on the windshield that turned to white paint as soon as the WW fluid hit it. But I scrubbed the glass clean....

Well bad wheel bearing on the HONDO is turning i to a POS I need a new hub, and the ones in the wrecking yard are on too good for my 5 foot breaker bar, I have bowed my 24 inch 1/2 breaker bar.
Have to order it from California....DAMNIT.....
The Pissan Nathfinder brake light came on and stayed on.. Farging Japanese engineers...placed a rubber button on the brake pedal to cushion the switch, and that fell off as it deteriorated. Then they used a piece "c" stock so you can't put a bolt and nut in the hole.
JB-WELD quick to the rescue. Applied liberally (only time I ain't strictly conservative) to the heads and glued them to that sucker....Allowed the Brake pedal to hold them in place. It is amazing how quickly epoxies harden at 100 degrees.... I think it was about 3 minutes.

But both cabbies are running good............

Thankfully all I have had to do to the Cabby lately is change plug wires an oil change and replace front brakes. Found out somthing when I was changing the rotors out. The screw that holds the rotors in place is easely replaced with an oil pan bolt. Long story but I have 2 oil pan bolts from when I had to put studs in the rear main seal carrier to prevent droping the trans.

Stupid Rear View Mirror fell off, and I had to re-glue it. But I chose clear RTV, sure it took a day to dry, but it vibrates less, and I didn't have to buy it.
