Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.
The one way that comes to mind is to get a doner car, take the entire frame and top. Check how the wiring is done when you take it off then put it on yours.
I know that's not much help, but it is one way.

Wow, I think you're the first person I've ever heard of wanting the power roof. I've heard lot of ppl say they got rid of it though.
At any rate, I think you're best bet would be to get the Bentley for the car that comes with it. Which is the Bently for Cabriolet/Scirocco w/16v. I happen to have the manual and I'll look into it a bit and see if there is any god info I can pass on to ya.
The idea is novel, but the way VW did was a pain. It was totally electric I think which put a heavy load on the already "not that great" wiring system in these cars. I coulf be wrong, i'll know more when I get access to my bentley at home.
Power, huh? I prefer "all the power I can put in it" kind of power top-just ask my husband just how fast I can put my top up in a torrential rainstorm-I've got it in about 7 seconds. Let's just see a power top do that
j/k, it's cool that you are taking this on possibly, I am not that brave...I am too afraid of having to have one..more..thing..fixed. I'd love to see pics of the process if you actually do this.
I knew power tops existed for other models (my boss' wife has a 2003 Beetle convertible) but I have never seen one on a cabby. Was this an option from VW?

I know I am going to come off sounding like an old timer and I really do not mean to be critical or cinical, I came up before there was such a thing as remote controls. In fact my babysitter sat me on top of her television to get reception so her girlfriends could watch a live "BEATLES" concert and she dared me to move. I never liked the Beatles much ever since but we will leave that for another forum. There is something basic and simple about the Cabby or the topless Rabbit and it is a car from the past. That is one of the appealing thihgs about them. I know we like to slam them and put 17 on them and some people even have everything gold plated but there is something about the wind in your hair and people saying "Is that a Rabbit?". It is like owning an original Indian motorcycle. It is like an old world war biplane. It is classic original German enginering at its best. We sometimes forget what it is we love and like about the Cabby, it never was a race car, it never was a luxury car. It was a low priced economical car for the masses. I have learned over the years that if you want certain things from a car then buy that car with those things already on it. There is a wide enough assortment of automobiles avaliable that you can have it anyway you like. If you cannot respect your car in its original form, you will never be happy with the end result. If you marry someone with the anticipation of changing that person you will never find contentment with that person. Same with cars. I once got up out of my chair to change the channels and volume on my TV. I actually enjoy getting out of my car to put the top down and putting it back up. I am experiencing my car. It is like a kick pedal to start an old motorcycle. If you want an electric top there are hundreds of cars on the market that have this. You have a Cabby, enjoy it while you have it because one day you will look back and wish you could enjoy it just one more time. Be careful what you wish for, you may get it. Don't wish for everything you see. Stop and enjoy. A cabby is a mechanical pet and a friend, not many cars can be that and you don't need the remote control in your hand to appreciate that. Damn, I sound old and the kid only wanted an electric top. Imagine if he wanted a DVD player... Now I remember the LP's and the 45's, the 8 tracks and the cassette...
The beautiful part of OWNING a vehicle instead of leasing one is the fact that you can change anything you want. My other point would be that sometiimes you don't want a vehicle with a power roof, but you want a power roof on your vehicle. My dream car is a 911 Turbo Cabriolet, but I can't have one because I refuse to rob banks or sell drugs, so I modify my Cabriolet to handle a little better and go a little faster.
