There's a little black box thing that's clipped to the fuel cell, between the fuel cell and the frame rail. WTF is it? It has 3 lines going in and our of it. The HP fuel pump and accumulator is out already. I tried to get a pic of it, but it won't stay out where I can get a good shot of it.

You talking about this?

That is the fuel accumulator.
Acts as a filter and a sump pump res. The in-tank pumps to it, then the main pump pulls from it.

new from German auto parts...

Re: Stinky Bunny v.1.6d
It ain't in there no more, lol. I found it on ETKA last night. Now I need to figure out which is the pump side and return side and pull a whole new pressure side, it's a mess. I though Red had bad fuel lines, Stinky's are just as bad if not worse.
I'm hoping I can set the NA in there this weekend and trouble shoot the TD to find out what it's malfunction is. Thanks for the help Brian, I do appreciate it.

OK, got the fuel line finished, tomorrow will be the rear axle reinstall. I promise I'll get some pictures tomorrow. With daylight so short in the evening, pics are the last thing on my mind with winter getting ready to set in on use next week.
Oh yea, forgot to add this. Diesel and gas mixed smells like boiled ass!!

Ran into several issues. Broken brake bleeder, decided to replace the front calipers and the pass side cylinder is toast, both are getting the heave ho tomorrow. Guard you hatch struts like they're GOLD, there is 1 Cabrio hatch strut in the northern hemisphere and it's in Canada and it is $60 + shipping. I'll be looking for a suitable replacement.

Bet McMaster-Carr has something that would fit.

Re: Stinky Bunny v.1.6d
I got good replacement ones from there for the Top, I am sure that if you measure it you will get one there a whole lot cheaper.
Cheaper replacement struts for your top,
http://www.mcmastercarr.com
strut - 9416K337 110lb force required
eyelet - 9416K84
You will need 2 struts @ $12.30 each and 4 eyelets @ $1.41 each for a total of around $38 shipped! Compared to the $40 each charged for the oem replacements.

You guys are aiight, don't care what anyone says about you.
OK, back to Stinky. Finished up all but the rear cylinders, gonna get them done tomorrow, then try and trouble shoot the Eco a little bit, I have a guru of the Eco coming down over Thanksgiving. I'm torn between getting a diesel in there and getting her going and waiting to put in the Eco.
Big Red decided she needed some love so I worked on her some today, my Golf is looking for lovin' too, lol. New fuel filtre housing for the Golf, then the one out of my car will go in Stinky when the Eco goes in.

Luckily I had a DFIS 11mm rebuild on the shelf so it wasn't too bad.
Benny is my little buddy. My wife is gonna take him for a consult, but one of thr DVM's she works with said the replacement is 3 grand.

Re: Stinky Bunny v.1.6d
Everything is still on hold with the crappy weather. I did get the TD running on the trailer the other day. Some people SHOULD NOT be allowed to touch a wrench. I shit you not, the guy I got the Eco from is an ASE certified mechanic and couldn't see that the fuel drained back because the seals are shot in the fuel filtre that's God only knows how old.
What is it with previous VW/ Audi owners? I've never run into a more mechanically uninclined group of individuals in my life, The bozo we got the 90 Quattro from couldn't fix a windshield wiper, seriously WTF? His fix was putting duct tape on the arm so it wouldn't scratch the glass!!

Re: Stinky Bunny v.1.6d
The majority of the VW/Audi owners here in the states just treat them like any other car. Any mechanic will do, be it Joe Dumbass's fix it shop or that kid down the street who knows what that internet thing is.
I've seen some really messed up fixes on the VW's that I've worked on. So far, the only Audi I've worked on is mine. I've replaced the steering rack and aside from that, everything works great.
