My 1992 Cabby is low on transmission fluid (automatic) and I see it says to use Dexron or Dexron II. My question is I have two quarts of Dexron III sitting in my supply cabinet. Can I use Dexron III or will I need to purchase some Dexron or Dexron II? Will putting the Dexron III in the transmission hurt it?
Thanks for your help.

Dextron III is good, that is what I am running in both of mine.

Yes as matter of fact, I have the Luck o'the Irish...everything I touch turns to fertilizer of the bovine variety.

In other words it won't hurt to mixed the Dexron III with whatever is in there now, correct?
Thanks for your help.

DextronIII is backward compatible. But I would exchange it, as in suck out the old and then refill with new. Won't hurt and will be getting contaminates out of the tranny.Eagle wrote:In other words it won't hurt to mixed the Dexron III with whatever is in there now, correct?
Thanks for your help.
To do a exchange it takes about 9 quarts.
That is Drain out 3, then fill with 3 new. Run the tranny drain out 3 and insert 3
then run the tranny, then drain out 3 and fill with 3.
I would even go so far as to use 1 can of Seafoam ATF.
I use a long piece of clear vinyl tube, that is in a quart jar, with another piece of tube going to my mighty vac, and suck it out via the dip stick.
