OK, need some input

I have been doing alot of lurking, alot of thinking, alot of picturing, alot of imagining. I finally found some pictures to play with. The top on my Cabby is shot and i think the frame might be bent as well. Instead of replacing the top what could i do? I want something different, something original. I turn to one of the great topless icons of the automotive world, Jeep. One thing that I love about Wranglers is their options for tops, in particular the bikini top. "Why wouldnt this work?" i thought to myself, and then the imagination kicked in. I could use some of the existing frame of the top (windshield bar, the two bars that go over the windows and them work on somthing to attatch it to the roll bar). I would remove the top frame from the car and have a custom pickup truck style tonneau cover made to keep the backend water tight and give me storage for my new bikini top. In the end i would get something that looked like this:

I am still in the very early stages of thought of this top, it might not even be possible to do, but it is fun to imagine.

Any input? Any one seen this done before?

I was so going to mention that yesterday, but my response was rushed as I was heading out the door to get to class. Back to your bikini top, I think it would be easiest to make it like a tonneau cover and use some ribs going from to the A pillar to the roll bar and then use some snaps to hold it all down. Just my 2 cents.

This is an interesting idea.

Are you planning on removing the OEM top as part of this?

If so, how do you intend to fill the void at the rear of the car where the top frame normally is?

I will be ditching the top. THat is where the truck toneau cover comes in. Something in this style made to fit the cabbie.

looks a bit rough, but hey, it's your car, make it your own. I personally like the idea for a show car, but think it could be a royal PITA for daily use.

The car is already a fair weather only/summer car. It would basically be a get home in a freak storm top.

Used to be that's just how sports cars were...they were primarily open cars, and you got a tonneau cover to block off the passenger side of the cockpit in inclement weather...other than that, if it rained, you got wet.

If it was a really nice car, like a Porsche 356, you might get a partial soft top and side curtains.
