Vent window latch

Post by jmbrownell »

I recently purchased 81 cabby, one of my dreams cars so I am very excited. However there is some work to be done, There is a terrible whistle coming from the passenger side window vent, this is due to there being no latch. I'm wondering what I should do I have spend the past 2 hours looking for a latch online with no luck.

Anyone had this problem? I was thinking about gluing it shut but, I would much rather fine a latch so the vent is usable.

Anyway Thank you for you help!

Well in 1981, and 1982 VW glued the pivots and the latches on the cars.
In 1983 and up to 89, they used ones that were drilled and the latches and pivots were bolted to the
window.

(in the 20 years that I owned my Rabbit Diesel I had those break after 5 years. I tried every type of glue
under the sun to no avail... so I just Glued them shut with silicone.).

Now thanks to the interweb and ebay, you can find replacements.
What you need is to upgrade the glass and pivots to the bolted ones. They are usually on ebay.

Thanks for the quick response. I have see some on eBay, I guess I just have to ask myself how much its worth to me. I may go the silicone route.
