I just wanted to introduce myself.

I have been a fan of the rabbit convertible since they first showed up in the 80's. Actually I was a bug fan before that. Just the thought of a small 2 door convertible made me excited. I love convertibles, and in Tx, if you own one, you really do save some cash by not having to get the A/C recharged every year. My first experience with VW's came to me, by my wife, 3 years ago with the purchase of a Scirocco. Sadly, I took it for granted and it burnt to the ground. My next aquisition, was a 85 cabby Just a year and a half ago. But due to gas prices and resulting inflation of everything else, I sold it to my brother. Now he wont sell it back. Guess thats what I get. But, I have found myself yearning for another. I have my eyes set on a white 83. Doesn't run, for $500, and it comes with a spare 89 parts car. The only problem is that I don't have the room for either car. What to do, :banghead: oh, what to do. Yeah, I know the 89 is digifant, and the motor doesn't work in the 83 without complete rewiring, But what I believe I will do is part out the 89. I also have a line on an 86 scirocco, not that I really care for the car, but, the seats do set lower than the cabby seats, So, I might be tempted to swap them out. I think I will. Geez, I seem to be planning more than my garage can handle.

Hey, Welcome to TRF and it's good to hear your story.

We have a couple of members in Texas so you are in good company.

Good idea about parting out the '89. However there might just be some stuff you will want there.

Sluggish, one of our members here in the Great White North, just picked up an '84 that runs (but the clutch is shot) for $350. He is intending to part it out, I'm going over for a look this week (can you spell VULTURE).

What's your point here? I think we are all like that.

I have my pride and joy '87 and my project '88 residing in my garage with parts all over.

I'ts just a pain to work out there when the temp. is -40!

If the '89 has its original equipment, it's CIS just like the '83. The differences between the two:

1983:
One fuel pump
1.7L
Full-size spare

1989:
Two fuel pumps
1.8L
Donut-size spare
Slightly different vacuum line routing

I thought Scirocco seats were the same, but that Corrado seats sat a bit lower. :?:

And, there's always room for a VW...

Update, the parts car is a 90, no fuel pump, no cat, hacked exhaust. THe only thing worth keeping is the frame from the top, its not bent like the one on the 83 is. I am keeping the auto transmission (I want to do some research to see what the gearing is on it, and if better, I will swap it out into the 83.) Currently, all I want to do is get the title mess cleared up, and get the car running.

1990 uses a TNA 010 auto trans; 1983 should have a TF 010 auto trans. Gearing is, unfortunately, the same: http://cabby-info.com/transmission.htm#3A .

Well, thats good. At least I know I can keep it and it will work. I guess I will need to make sure and keep the torque converter and axles. Cool. At least its good to know, that the parts car was not a total wash.

All of the parts you can't use, sell... you'll probably get more than what you paid for the car. 8)

Well, I got them. BOth, for a total of $600. I already have one sold (the white one) I have a friend at work who could use an extra car for his family, so I cut him in on the deal. The deal being, he pays me $300 after we get the wiring sorted, and the car is on the road. The automatic in my driveway will be getting a new to me pump soon. All thats left is getting the title taken care of on it.(that and the black cabby(which is actually silver))
