Help with building an easy garage compressed air system!

Post by bLac K aBriOleT89 »

Well, I've had this idea for a while and since the weather is starting to get nicer I think i'll do this project.
My idea is to locate my air compressor in a concealed place, and put some pipeing to have the air on one side of my garage (shop style). just wondering if anyone has done it or has any recommendations or ideas.....nothing fancy, just usefull and inexpensive. I guess is gonna be like plumbing job for air....
What I need to check is what size of pipes, material, etc.....my compressor is 150lbs, and 5 hp if that helps.
Thanks for any input!

Just use a really long rubber hose to a 5 way manifold... :)

I bought a reel with a 50 ft. hose and mounted it under my work bench. along with the 25 ft. hose that came with my compressor I can reach almost to the street.

I got the reel on sale at my local Canadian Tire, and with the help of a couple of short lengths of hose and a couple of Quick Disconnects the compressor connects through a water filter to the hose reel.

Total cost was about $50.

If you want, I'll do a couple of pictures.

Here are the pictures as promised.

I only have an 8 Gal. compressor. But the idea is the same as if I had a bigger one.

Here is the setup
Image

I have a Quick Disconnect (QD) on the compressor where the yellow hose attaches. That way I can move the compressor to somwhere else or, connect a bigger compressor.

The yellow hose (actually there are two) have a filter to help keep moisture out of the tools.

Image

Here is the reel. I bought it for 1/2 price when it was on sale about $30 Cdn (last year).

I used four carrage bolts to mount it to the work bench.

Image

Finally I connected a QD to the end of the 50 ft. blue hose on the reel and on the 25 ft. black hose that came with the compressor.

Image

All and all, I can reach 75 feet from the compressor no problem, and if I need the compressor in the back (like I did last summer when guy next door and I built a new fence, it was just a matter of disconnecting the compressor and the black hose.
