got let go from my job on Friday....got a call from Boeing down in San Diego on tuesday...they want me to start work down there on January 2nd....starting @ 26.42hr...lets just say i've already talked to my apartment manager about breaking my lease, found a place to live and already reserved a truck and trailer for the move....too bad i have to leave my Jetta up here till they finish it...im gonna fly back up when its done and either drive it back or tow it back.....who woulda thunk a paint job would take this fricken long (i dropped it off August 8th 2006)

What are you going to do at Boeing?
You mean they are actually going to finish it? Did the world stop?... no it was just a false alarm.SoCal_Cabby wrote:..too bad i have to leave my Jetta up here till they finish it...im gonna fly back up when its done and either drive it back or tow it back.....who woulda thunk a paint job would take this fricken long (i dropped it off August 8th 2006)

F18's noooooooooo.SoCal_Cabby wrote:i'll be fixing F18s...the exact same job i did in the marine corps
I used to work on our F-18's (and a few other types as well) before I left the Air Force.
They must be getting a little long in the tooth so to speak. Canada took delivery of their last one from Mac Air in 1988.

Damn man, pick a state would ya. I mean at least you have managed to stay on the left coast, but all this back and forth.
Seriously, glad to hear that you found something super quick. It's a bad time of the year for work and I think you just got really lucky.
Need a pic of you back in Cali, flippin off a burger joint or something.

Re: Going back to Cali
What a crappy time of year to let people go!!
I am very glad you found a good paying job so soon, though. I wish you the best of luck with your move.

Dude, seriously be carefull. I don't want to see a post a few weeks out from a hospital room.
If ya think you might need help staying awake or anything through the pass, PM me your cell number and let me know when you should be hitting it. I'll give ya a call and help ya stay alert.

Re: Going back to Cali
Sucks about the job and having to move (especially at this time of year
), back to SoCal no less (born and raised there; sorry, I hate the place
). But, you'll have a good-paying job, you'll be true to your screen-name again
, and, most importantly, you can have an In-N-Out burger every day!!

Re: Going back to Cali
sorry, it's been so long, but lets just say this was by far the worst experience of my life....
anything that coulda gone wrong went wrong on this trip.
i hit snow around Olympia, WA, and had snow non stop to just south of Redding, CA
got in a 4 car pileup in Medford, OR
had to wait in Medford to get my passenger side mirrors fixed and get some Chains for the pass
dude sold me the wrong chains, spent over 250 getting new chains, and had to get chains for the trailer as well.
broke a chain coming down the other side which broke my fuel filler tube (couldnt put fuel in the truck, had to remove the filler tube and put the nozzle directly into the gas tank
transmission went tits up, car covered in tranny fluid, also the cause of accident in Medford
had to wait for mechanic to come and tell me i needed a tow truck (basically what i told Penske over the phone)
got towed an hour north to fresno
penske truck fell off tow truck
had to move all my stuff into a new truck with no help from Penske.
made it all the way to San Diego on one tank of gas from Fresno (new truck got good gas mileage, old truck did not)
my 19 hour trip took 42 hours

Sounds like a combo of mine and Brians luck rolled into one.
Again, glad you made it in one peice. Let us know how things are going once you get a chance to come back up for air.
