Well, I checked the "hound" and almost crapped myself. It seems they have come to the realization that they are great for oversized shipping and now charge like they know it.
I'll be checking back into FedEx as I've found that their most recent revamp seems to put the top back into the normal package catagory but with some modifications. So I'll be checking back into them about that. When I checked their new stuff out online, it looks like I might be able to ship it for $60-$70 which isn't bad for that awkward thing.

they really needed to redo the shipping. there is a lot of people that would like to ship bigger things and not get humped in the pooper!
60-70 is good tho...better then what i was thinking.
after dealing with shipping those RS bumpers i'm kinda nervous about the top frame.

If you can't beat them, drop the top and pimp by 'em!

Ben, if you get too nervouse, just let me know. I'm fairly certain I can wedge it into one of the rocco's come June or Cincy. Though I'd like to get it to ya sooner then that. If I can tear myself away from the rocco this weekend, I'm going to see if I have enough cardboard left to package that puppy up.

right now your the only lead on a top frame i have.
i know a guy that has 2 rabbit convertibles that i could get dirt cheap but didn't the top on the cabriolets go down further when it's lowered then the pre-cabriolet rabbits?

Garage cam is back up. Not sure how much work I'll be doing today and my back is bothering me a bit. However, I should be tinkering with the engine at least every now and then.

So I got a little work done and had a mini adventure.
I put the Cams in and in the process, snapped a stud. I didn't take a pics of the snapped stud because when it happened I almost crapped myself, paniced for about 30seconds and then realized I had a spare head I could pull a stud from. Once my mind was clear, I just did what I needed to do and totally forgot to take pics.
Anyway, Cams are in, here a shot.

I also went ahead and timed the engine up and put the timing belt and gear on as well just to hold things in place durring all the fun. Here's a shot of that.

Also did some painting

I didn't do nearly as much as I had intended, but what can ya do. It wasn't as warm as I would have liked on Sunday and to make matters worse, my cell phone died and I had to go and take care of that, which took longer then buying a car.
So, if this next weekend is a bit better weather wise, maybe I'll get some seriouse movement going.
Oh, Thanks to Ben for constantly harrassing me from the webcam

Oh I know, that why I was given ya crap about it. An yea, the gear is purdy. I think I'll be leaving the upper timing cover off to keep it on display. If nothing else, it will just allow easy access.1lowcab wrote:

Yea, I think I will. Hoping to get some more work done this weekend, but it's going to be tough. The weather is going to be great and my vmax has been whispering to me every time I walk past it.
To make matters worse, my father is bringing his bike over on Saturday so we can do some work to it. Must resist, or at least just make it a short ride

Today was excellent weather wise so I did a little work to the rocco. I've been getting the 2L engine prepped and I've just about gotten everthing I can do taken care of untill I have the old engine out of the car to steal some of the parts I'll be swapping over.
So today I was thinking about dropping the engine and trans but I couldn't get an extran set of hands to help out. Now I certainly can do it myself, but since the Cristine was out with my mother and our daughter off at work, I figured I'd hold off till next weekend when someone could be around incase I do something stupid and injure myself to a point where I can't get to a phone to to the car to make it to the hospital. Normally I wouldn't care, but lately my luck hasn't been so good and I'm not looking to tempt fate.
So I said the hell with it and figured I'd toss the front coil overs on and set them for 4x4 mode to make working in the engine bay a bit easier on my back. In the end it was a good thing as I found that when I damaged the strut on the right front (hit a 2" standing break on the highway where the stripped the asphalt of the road up untill the concreat of a bridge and didn't leave any warning signs) I also damaged the wheel bearing on the pass side. I'd rather know now though so I can get the parts ordered. Not to mention, it looks like I'll also need some wheel spacers.
So here is the old strut assym out and in the second pic you can see it's covered in strut oil from it blowing the seal.

And here is a shot of the old strut assym compared to the Vmaxx coil-over strut assym.

Almost done

Everything all together. I did end up raising the strut a lot more then whats in the picture. It's currently almost all the way to the top. What sucks, is that with it ajust almost as high as it can be, it's almost sitting exactly where the car was when I first pu tthe H&R sport springs on. So, these coil-overs are ment to go very low. Downside is, my tire is rubbing a bit on coil-overs just a tad (205x45x16). They hit the adjusting collars, not the springs or strut body itself. So I raised them up to a point where it doesn't touch the tire. Looks as if 5mm spacers in the front should take care of any clearence issues. some 10mm spacers for the rear wouldn't hurt either I'm thinking
I would have done the rear as well, but some friends dropped by wih their little ones and so I cleaned up and became a human jungle gym for the rest of the day.
Over all good day, and it was nice to finally start actually working on the car itself. I'm hoping that my job will not be a PITA this week and rather then waiting for the weekend, I can do more durring the week and maybe have the engine out by Friday.
