Are your hand having a chill and are your vents Whistling?

Are you hearing a whistling when your side vents are closed? Do your hands get that little bit of cold air blowing on them as they are on the steering wheel? Well I have the answer for you.

Gently remove your side vents from the dash.

Then carefully disconnect the movement cam link.

Gently pry out the opposite pivot.

Then twisting sideways you can remove the vent stop.

Carefully remove the dead foam, you will need to make a template so you can tear it on one side only.

Now using a piece of foam thin ( I use old mother board foam I have a ton of it )

Place the dead foam on it and trace the outline be wide on the outside.

Cut it outside of the lines a bit
Now you have a new donut gasket.

Work the foam around the Stop into the groove.

Now trim it evenly around about ¼ of an inch

Insert the stop with the cam side first, and be careful… then pop the other side in to place.

Re-attach the cam arm…

Now admire your finished work.

Your side vents won’t whistle any more and the cold air will be totally cut off of your hands and won’t interfere with the side defrosters any more.

PS. You can do the center vents the same way..... enjoy.

You only left one thing out. Are you using static electricity to hold the foam to the flapper???

Seriously though, excellent writeup, been lucky that cristines cabby doesn't have those issues, oam seems to still be in good shape. Though now that I've said that, the foam pixies are going to come and nibble it all away tonight

Don't need any glue at all the foam goes in a groove and is held in to place by Friction fit............

I wondered where yall had gone off to, as you both have bikes and have been neglicting the cabby. No wonder why she is co crabby so often.

I wouldn't say that we have been neglecting the cabby as much as we have the rocco's. The cabby has seen some road time and she seems to be loving the colder weather.

I have been enjoying the Cabby, but sad to say all of my nice weather days really have been spent on the bike.

However, I am still not good enough of a rider to take solo trips and since I have weekdays off when William is working, the Crabby Cabby gets road time

She isnt too Crabby these days, with the exception of every now and then she has a mystery starting problem where she bogs. It is very sporadic, no pattern to it, and not often enough to leave her to sit and stew about it in the driveway. (she hates getting punished)

Ah ha! Another mystery solved and questions answered. My knuckles am chilly. Another source for a foam-like material turned out to be the remnant of a black, solid sheet, closed-cell foam I purchased from Sears. Sold as a tool drawer liner, it now has a second - and better - use. Cool! Uh, I mean 'warm'.

I've got a cold wind blowing under my dashboard, on the driver's side. Has anyone seen that one? I'm thinking maybe the duct to the side vent is leaking, but I haven't had time to look yet.

Call it a guess, but you are probably right. If you don't have AC I'd bet that the vent hose/pipe is just disconnected.

wiether you have a/c or not you have the fresh air vents on the passenger and driver side. Most likely the plastic hose is off of either end, I know that when i pull out the drivers side vent, I usually pull the hose out of the heaterbody when I go replaceing hte vent... so it is probably only that hose connection that needs to be replaced.
