A big Kudzu, Kudo, to William and Christine.....
Stopped by Napa and picked up a set of mains, and rod bearings, if the crank looks good, and plastic gauge goes well, then it is getting new bearings..... I figured what the hell, ya know.

Was going to dirty fest, but it was 11:30 when i awoke....Ran instead to Pull-a-Part... http://www.pullapart.com the norcross site, for those that want to see where I spend my off time...
Meet 2 Dubbers down from Chattanooga for the Dirtyfest...
The were amazed at the prices...
Spent 2 hours trying to get the lower timing cover off...ever try to break the crank bolt with no tranny? Ended up using an audi hood prop and winding it around the pressure plate till it finally bit and I could off torq the bolt, which came out like a dream.
So William, I am going to use that one instead of yours, I don't have to futz around trying to get htat last bolt out...
Well its time for my nap.. (have to work)....later...

Not only that but they have plenty of Wheel-Barrows to use, and a shuttle cart that takes you out and brings you back...it is almost better than a trip to Disney World. MMMM maybe better IMHO...TheDon wrote:I clicked the link...Briano1234 wrote:....Ran instead to Pull-a-Part... http://www.pullapart.com the norcross site, for those that want to see where I spend my off time......you lucky SOB...

Doh!, Just put all that in a PM to ya. Man, to think I just started my drinking and already I'm screwing up.
Show and shine was great. Lots of turnout and was much more low-key then we expected. We really thought there was gonna be a lot of childish acting out from the MKIV crowd, but there wasn't. Everyone behaved themselves very well.
Cristine started drinking early, so I stayed sober. She had a lot of fun, I had fun trying to find her every time I turned my back. We got to help out enough that it didn't lend any time to take pics. However, there will be an arse load on the tex withing the next day or so.
So now, Cristine is fairly sober and I have started drinking. Hrm, that last drink makes my kayboard look funny.

Wow I took the mains and journal caps off and plastiguaged them, they were within specs so I am just going to drop in the new mains and rod bearings and be done with it.
It is still dripping sweet clear oil.....lol...
Tomorrow I will yank it out of the engine. Then Tuesday clean and replace all the seals, so Wed I can get it installed.
Sooooo the Saga Continues...............................
PS.
While I was talking to my brother on the phone I noticed that infront of my house were beautiful wild patches of Shamrocks growing... now that is a good sign........................

Glad to hear about the crank being within spec and about the patch O' the Irish.
I didn't do crap today. Did get a visit from a fellow dubber with his 2.0 16v turbo corrado. Cristine got to go for a ride in it and all she would say for about 5min after was "PPPPPSSSHHHHHHH....I want that sound".

The crank is out of the donor engine, it was touch and go, but the operation was a sucess. I polished all the mains and journals, for the new bearings, and then popped out the old main seals and replaced with the new popped out all the old bearings on my engine.
Everything is looking for re-assembly to start tomorrow.
William, it was a good thing when I took off the pressure plate and clutch, the rivits were starting to shine on the plate. The Clutch wasn't much longer for this world.

Brian, glad to hear that everything is preped for tomorrows "operation - Golden Balls Lives Again"
As for the clutch, yea, I knew it was toast. When we bought the car, the last drive it made was from Kennesaw to our house and I was beating on the clutch the whole time cause I knew it was toast. I did forget about that till just now though.

The donor crank is in the engine, and the engine is back together, save for hanging the powersteering I have it held in place by the belt.
The Golden Pan of oil is back on with the new (thanks W&C) oil pump, the mains threw me for a minute as the new berings had thrust washers integrated to the design.
The wifie assisted me in getting the crank gear off the pulley as I held it to a block of wood. When the son came home he helped me put on the oil pump and the pan, then held the crank bolt while I tightened the rear flywheel to crank bolts.
So all the belts and seals are on... It is now Tranny time tomorrow, after I drain it and refill the diff.
