A tale of Taz

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

I'd be interested in comparing lists of removed stuff and stuff planned to be removed.
Have you weighed your car yet? I've heard shockingly high numbers for the Cabriolets compared to Rabbit sedans, I'm afraid to find out
i haven't weighed the whole car yet, but i would like to know how much a cabriolet weighs stock. i've heard anywhere from 2250lbs all the way up to 3000lbs  ( i don't think it could be 3000lbs )

anyway, my list:
i started with the easy stuff.

spare tire
jack
backseat
then moved to the harder stuff.

all the A/C stuff under the hood ( a lot of weight there )
and the big heavy rebar bumper mounts behind the clipper kit. when i mounted the RS bumpers i made my own thinner lighter bumper mounts. ( a whole LOT of weight saved there! )

all that added up to 164lbs... like kicking out your skinny buddy before you race! :)
then when i took out the auto trans it was 74lbs fatter then a 5spd so that got me up to 238lbs.... like kicking out your big buddy before you race!

i'm also removing all the powersteering, it'll be interesting to find out if i save some weight there too.
If you can't beat them, drop the top and pimp by 'em!

I think the difference between the power steering and the maunal is like 20lbs. Might be a tad more, but I think thats it.

I could be wrong, but somehow I seem to remember this from a debate on the rocco list a year or so ago.

Racing teams will spend thousands of dollars to shave a single pound. Every ounce counts towards the total...the more you can take off, the bigger benefit you will have. I would never sneeze at a chance to dump 20 pounds. My car is bare....no power anything. Every effort has been made to use the lightest components when a replacement was sourced. I'm even deleting the stereo this season, it's not much, but I never listen to it anyways.

Latest updates. Got my new intake tubes today and set to work mixing and matching to find the perfect one to modify for my air tube. (time to replace that restrictive plastic one.). Found the perfect tube and set to work measuring it off for the cut...then I had at her.

But it leaves a bit of a raw edge.

Which is where a little muscle and filing comes into play..

Afterwards, a quick pull through or two with a cotton rag to sweep any wayward particles from the tube

And we have a perfect finished product...ABD...eat your heart out.

Now ya just need to have it powder coated or annodized purple and your set.

Nice work indeed. However, you can make life much easier on yourself as far as though rough edges with a small dremel/totary tool. I have one and almost can't imagine doing any of that by hand anymore. Then again, you can obtain a much better level of quality with a hand file.

LOL, not worried about the veteran comment. That's quite common that people don't think that veterans by definition come from pretty much all age groups. Just have to serve 3 years in regular force here in Canada. It doesn't hurt that I was involved with the first Gulf War, doing 1 Air Maintenance support from Germany. Lexan might be getting a little too extreme for me..lol Not quite there yet.

Great thanks, looks clean!

Man, just looking at your Cabby gets me all excited and motivated to start working on my again. LOL!
I also have a black cabby, 1986, which I was planning on doing the exact same body mods. Can I ask where you bought your euros and duckbill?

Thanks

The bumbers and duckbill were on it when I got the car, but they were purchased through RPI equipped as far as I know.
