Car starting issue
OK, so i got a few things on my car fixed today, I let my mom take it out for a little ride. She goes to start the car and does haven't the clutch in so it jumped a little. She goes to try and start it again and nothing happens not even an attempt to start. I can hear the starter ticking though. So I jumped started it and it ran took it for a quick boot pulled it into the garage and turned it off. Went to start it and nothing again. Someone please help! I hope its just a blown fuse or relay..
Sounds like the solenoid is sticking. Give it a whack with a hammer and see if it starts. If that doesnt work, put the car in neutral, and use a screwdriver to jump the battery terminal on the starter to the small lead that goes to the solenoid. Make damn sure it's in neutral though.
It takes a real man to drive a bunny....

Clean the battery terminals, check the wires for corossion internally. If there is green or white powdery stuff in the body of the wire it is time for a new wire. Also Your ground wires all connect at the drivers strut tower. Clean them really good. Disconnect the Positive lead from the battery and clean the end on the starter and from the starter solenoid to the motor. Clean the B+ wire fron the alternator to the battery also.J-Dub wrote:Tried giving it a whack, nothing happened. I'm gonna give the connections a good clean tomorrow see if that helps
One more thing, Make sure that all your bolts holding the starter to the engine / tranny are tight, they are the grounds for the starter I remember that someone on the tex had a couple of them loose and one missing. Giving then the same issue.
Once you do get it started Check your gauge to see that you are putting out 13.5 to 14 volts dc from the alternator any less with all electrical items off and you aren't charging your battery.
Good thing to check is the tightness of your alternator belt, and the belt from your crank to your a/c compressor if it is loose as a goose that too could be your problem.

Thanks for the help. Checked and cleaned all the connections and made sure everything was getting power. Still couldn't figure it out, so i took it to my mechanic and he found that the starter seized. He got me a brand new bosch not even a rebuilt. He told me you can only buy rebuilts, he managed to get me a brand new one.

my guess is when she lurched forward with the starter jammed itself. next time it happens leave the car in gear and rock it back anf forth a couple time, it will un stick the starter and should get you started so you can get to the parts store and get a new one.
it was probably an old started and not as tight as it once was.
