DAMNIT.. Stuff starting to happen
ok, so while I am driving around and have to let off the gas, the cabby acts as if she wants to die out on me, then comes back to steady idle... also when i am crusin, and want to pass someone (not on the highway) and I give it the gas... it doesnt downshift into passing like suppose to(remember I have an auto). Fuel level gauge doesnt work. when i put the new cover on , i had to remove the rear seat, so while i had it out, i checked the sending unit plug thing. Its not wet, or corroded.. its very clean. what next??

Jimmy if you had a 350 turbo hydramatic tranny I would say the vaccume to the modulator or the modulator was bad, but it still sounds like a vaccume problem to me... sorry I can't be of more help..
PS I will get that vent out to you on Wed.

You have a few problems that may not be related so I'll try to answer one at a time.
Idle fluctuation: Many causes here, first thing I would check is the idle air control motor. Round cylinder mounted up top in front of the manifold. It should buzz/vibrate when you turn the key to the on position. If it doesn't, check for power to the plug. Next I would check for vacuum leaks. Use a can of carb. cleaner to spray around hoses, one at a time. If the idle goes up you have found your leak. Ignition timing and air/fuel mixture can also influence this condition. If you haven't cleaned the throttle body in a while then this is a good time for that also. The secondary butterfly could be hanging up momentarily on grime and causing a lean condition. There are more scenarios but these will get you started and you need no money to do them.
Downshift: Hopefully you have a Bentley manual. There is a procedure for setting the throttle cable and linkage. Perform this and the problem will most likely go away. This problem can also be caused by the idle air control motor. For some reason the IAC valve affects transmission operation.
Fuel gauge: Check the grounds around where the sender goes into the tank. Also check the grounds under the dash to the left and above the fuse box. If all of these are good, check for power at the sender. If you have power, pull the sender out of the tank and do a resistance check on the sender with an ohms meter to verify the sender is varying resistance as you move the arm up and down.
If I wasn't clear on any of this don't be afraid to ask for more info. Good luck.
