I can't seem to post any. I have a photobucket account. best I can post is a box with black x inside.

have used [img]link%20then[/img]

any hints?

On photobucket, there is a direct link, a email link im link, a html link, and a img link.
Right click the IMG link or click the img heading to the right of the box. The link will cut in to your clipboard.
Then open your thread and right click paste.
Preview it and you should see your post with a picture.

I had to delete a few braces so you could see what the link looked like.

You can click on the direct link, copy that as when it is copied to your clipboard it will turn yellow and say copied.
then paste it between
img]://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/briano1234/Screen%20Shot%202017-04-30%20at%206.39.52%20PM_zpslbdjr66n.png[/img
