help unsure what is wrong
So when my car gets hot past 80 °c it's trys to shut off when I brake not sure what it is vw cab 87

That is the Oil temp? As the water temp has no numbers.
I would first look at changing all vacuum lines that are cloth covered, including the throttlebody by-pass screw that is the 7mm brass bolt on the back of the Throttlebody next to the fire-wall it has a o-ring. Count the number of turns to remove and run to good hardware store to get a new o-ring.
Applying Brakes only effects the Engine 2 ways, Vacuum, or electrical as when the Brake lights come on.
If you haven't taken the Time to replace the Battery to frame, and frame to engine/tranny grounds now would be a cood time to do that.
I would direct you to www.cabby-info.com and look at the Tune-up sections for setting Duty Cycle, and or timing.
CIS is very particular to the Duty Cycle being set correctly.
First guess is Vacuum lines.

So would the fabric line connected to the distributor be a vacuum line also. I don't repair my car I'm just trying to get answers so I don't put money into something I don't need

Yes, Fabric Line connected to the Vacuum Servo onthe Distributor is the "Vacuum Controlled Advance" and is regular vacuum line.xrayjr900 wrote:So would the fabric line connected to the distributor be a vacuum line also. The Hose that leaves the radiator isn't vacuum it is Radiator hose.

I purchased an 86 VW Cabriolet Karmann Convertible from a friend. I have never owned a foriegn auto before. I was aware that it had a problem upon purchase and now I'm trying to figure it out for myself so I won't get cheated at a repair shop.
First of all, the ideling was off and thought that may be the problem, but after fixing the vacumn leaks that were found it still cuts off after running for a short time. I've been told it could be the fuel pump (in the tank)...other guesses were the Fuel Flow Sensor, Clogged Injectors or the Catalytic Convertor. After researching the Up-Keep and prices on parts for this beauty, I've decided to get it right and then sell! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated....

As for cost of upkeep, you will find once your issue is solved, this car is actually very easy to repair and not that expensive after all. Consider that your car is almost 30 years old. I have an '87 and an '88 and together they cost me less to maintain that my newest car.
Now for a couple of quick questions:
1. Is the idle back to normal? (should be around 1000 RPM.)
2. When the car dies, are you driving fast, accelerating, coasting or idling?
One quick thing to check (it happened to me wit a Rabbit I had) is look at the fuel pump under the car (in front of the right rear wheel) and make sure the rubber hose coming out is not kinked. If it is simply adjust the hose. That will solve your problem.
If the hose is not kinked, let us know and we will help you out.
Just remember there are no dumb questions.

I don't know nutting bought CIS.....
I would think there is no Fuel Flow sensor.
I would ask that when this happens how long has the car been running.
I would ask if there is a LOUD whine from the passenger side rear wheel arch when this happens.
I would replace the Battery to Frame and the Frame to engine ground wire.

Wrecking yards, maybe ecs tuning (nope just checked), ebay..... You can clean the bejeezers out of it with Brake Clean, then "patch" from within or outside with Urethane, or Ultra RTV But it has to be CLEAN......
