New to the forum, just got a 82 rabbit convertible this spring.
The rabbit is in great condition but the engine knocks like crazy and you would think it runs on oil. So I picked up a 01 jetta vr6, pulled the engine and the plan is to have it in and running by next spring. Is there anyone on this forum who has done this swap with a eurowise kit or is there anyone interested in me writting this up as I go?
Mk4 jetta that kindly donated it's heart

A good build thread is always welcomed. Take plenty of photos...

Re: VR6 cabby
This will be an awesome, but challenging project. I've not done it, but I know it's not super easy to cram that Vr in the bunny. Though most seem to put the early VR in there, I'm a big fan of the 2nd Gen VR. Do yourself a favor though. While the VR is out, seperate the trans and replace the timing chains and wear guides. I know from first hand experience how little it takes for those chains to snap and bend all 12 valves. That was my penance for putting the job off an extra week once all my parts arrived. Sitting at a traffic light and snap! No compression to all 6 cyl's after that.
So, do that while the engine is out as it will be a lot easier than once it's shoe-horned into that cabby. Above all, good luck. I can't wait to see the progress on this project.

Thanks calimus, I've been looking at doing that. It seems with this engine code it's a problem. The reason the mk4 was sold to me in the first place was the crack pipe. So I've already replaced the pipe with a "stage 2 aluminum" water pipe from ecs tuning. Here's some picture on how things are going so far.

With all that added power, you may want to consider swapping the rear brakes out for disc.

Re: VR6 cabby
It's been a while since an update so here we go. I've pulled the rabbits engine and cleaned up the engine bay. Currently cleaning up the control arms and prepping the bay for the swap. I mounted the new shift linkage by making the old hole a little larger and drilling holes for the studs and bolts in the rear. Next up is mounting the clutch pedal.
