9O cabby, it's not a brake leak, It's a steering rack leak.

So,what i thought was a break line leak turns out to be a steering rack leak. The leak is on the drivers side, from the tie rod boot onto the control arm and showing up at the inside wheel. I read the Bentley manual, It says that "the power assisted steering gear is available only as a complete assembly. Service of the steering gear, including repair of housing seal leak is by replacement only". [ Ref. Bentley manual: 1o-36 Suspension and steering, 7.3, 2nd paragraph]

Questions is, is this correct? Has anyone ever tried to repair the steering assembly? If it must be replaced, any suggestions on where to get it and Pricing?

They make rebuild kits, but to replace the o-ring on the drivers side you have to take the assembly out of the car, which requires removal of the down pipe,
and the inner tie-rods then you have to loosen the rack on the mounts to get to the rear hose, as it is a BEATCH.
Then remove the collar on the gear assembly to the steering shaft. MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASS...........

You have to take the entire rack apart to get to that drivers side o-ring via the passenger side of the rack.

Rebuilt racks are about 230 with core, there are 2 types or actually 4.

The Manuals have the bracket for the shifter welded to it, auto's don't.

Yes they can be rebuilt the kits are about 30-50 bucks, but trying to get the inner spanner nut off was a pain in the ass, and I finally decided that a wrecker yard with one that don't leak was the better idear.

When I restored my '88, I had the same issue. Since I was rebuilding the whole car, I decided to replace the rack. It cost me about $220 (CAD).
