Motor mount orientation 88 Cabby

Post by BandB »

My mounts are so chewed up I can't determine the proper orientation in the mounting bracket. It looks like on the passengers side that the air gap is at the top with the rubber "foot" on the bottom. Is that correct? The drivers side I can't tell anything.
Thanks

Sounds like they are pretty beat up.

They are not that expensive to replace. I assume the engine is out of the car right now. If that's the case, it is probably worth your wile to replace them.

I never can remember, but there should be an arrow on the new mount to indicate up.

But from the vintage site:

This is a long overdue report on my engine mount replacement. I followed Timbo's Technotes on the subject and all went well. I actually did it in stages saving the passenger side installation till last. I test drove Luvi after each mount installation and didn't find any significant improvement in idle vibration till I installed the passenger side mount. WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT!! I had read that others found the same results but I wanted to reinforce that fact. So if anyone is considering not changing out this mount because of the difficulty all I can say is yake your time ...follow Timbo's procedures and you will find the results well worth your effort. Thanks to everyone...especially Timbo's "Vintage Watercooled" for great Technotes...

Regards..
