Inexpensive speaker replacement

Post by BandB »

After 23 years it was time to replace all 4 speakers in "Luvi".

I'm not an audiofile by any means so I was looking for a direct (as much as possible) replacement that had acceptable audio performance.

For the front doors I installed Pionear 4x6 TS-A4672R units. These were a direct "bolt in"

For the rear I installed VR3 RS400 units which are 4 inch models. The depth of these speakers required that I flip the existing mounting bracket over and then attach the speakers to them. The bracket with the mounted speakers fit in the space previously occupied by the 3 inch units. Reversing the mounting bracket allowed the speaker assembly to clear the window operating mechanism.

Sound quality is more than adequate for my needs. Both sets of speakers are available at Wal Mart with a total cost of under $100.
