power window doesn't work

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

power window doesn't work

Post by eric4321 »

The passenger window on my 93 Cabby does not go down. The window worked intermitently for a time. I priced a motor at $170. How can I tell for sure if it is the motor? I hear a clicking in the dash when I push the switch up. No noise when I push it down.

I don't have the schematics for newer Cabbies, but by your description, it sounds like the relay that controls the motor has failed.

Have you had any problems raising the window? If the motor always works for raising the window, I would cosider the relay

99 times out of 100 it is the control module that has gotten wet.
You need to take a few steps prior to repairing it.

Remove your fresh air plenum. And reseal it, there are 2 screws that hold it on one under the knee bar and one from the top.
Clean your rain drains, and of you don't have a rain deflector you need to get one.

You may want to re-route your vacuum lines and windshield washer out of there too like I did.

A dirty rain drain allows water to migrate under the lip and drip right on the window control module.
Look where the arrow is. That is also where the controller is underneath.

Then invest in a leaf guard to prevent stuff from clogging up the drains, as there is one under the Digifant controller too.

Unless you can find one in a MK1 rabbit /sirrocco, or a golf.

Take the controller out and then carefully pull it apart and clean the corrosion off the relays, and re-solder them to the board and you should be okay. Other wise you need to find one off a Jetta or passant of the same year.

Well I was able to look into the power window on the Cabby. It turns out the switch was not working. I went to Advanced and Ocraplys and neither one can get it. I figured I would try cleaning the inside of it and it works for now. Brian thanks for the tip on the leaf gaurd I will be making one soon. My 81 Rabbit has one. Wonder why they didn't put them on Cabbys?
