Fuse

I need help. I blow a fuse and now I can't find a replacement. The fuse I pulled out is a mini fuse but in the center is a hook like to hold the fuse in the fuse box. I've been to 5 auto parts houses and they claim they've never seen one.

My question, will a regular mini fuse work in place of this odd looking fuse?

Was going to try one but don't want to do any damage if it doesn't work.

snap a pic and post it. if it is a mini fuse and there is additional plastic on it that is missing on a new one using a new one is probably going to be ok.

but I have never seen a mini fuse on a VW box.

Is the fuse from your 92 Cabby and was it actually in the fuse box or located somewhere else? If it came out of the fuse box on your 92 then a regular ATO fuse of the correct amperage should work. Some of the original VW fuses had exposed strips and plastic bars over them. By the way, did you visit an actual parts store or were they Advanced, Pep Boys etc. ?

Yes, the fuse is in the main fuse box under the dash on the 92 cab. It is the far right fuse which controls the high beam or low beam headlight.

And yes, the part stores I went to were Advanced, Auto Zone, etc.

Brian, wish I could post a photo but don't have a camera. I might try to just scan the fuse its self and see if I can send a picture that way.

If you look at the picture above, the fuse is 10 amp, and the small red plastic between the metal part has a very hook like on the end
the I suppose locks the fuse in place. I've never seen another fuse like this one but all the fuses in the box are like this one
just different amps.

That is a normal VW fuse the hooks are outside of the fuse box they are what you grab to pull it out... besides a regular car fuse works fine.

pssst that is one bad fuse. But you could jumper it.

Yup, That's just an average 10 Amp fuse.

For some reason European fuses tend to be open to the air like that one.

It is a direct replacment.

That is so that the sparks from the fuse going can ignite paper gas fumes etc etc etc......

Oh come on, with the amount of braided fuel line that VW has used in the past,
not to mention gas heaters and what not. I think VW could have been more
imaginative than an open fuse to light up our lives don't you.

oh god, I almost forgot about the gas heaters First time I saw one of those, I was like "No way I'm getting near a car that comes complete with it's own self destruction system"

I was a wrench at a garage that did nothing but Type2, Type 4 and Porsche
with a little Type 1 and 3 every now and then. We HEATED the garage with
those for quite a few years. After they moved into a larger place with central
heating I stopped working there. Three years later the place burned to the
ground caused by an electrical failure in the wall. The gas heaters don't scare
you so much after you rebuild 2 or 3 or 20.

I'll take your word for it, but I'm still not riding in a car that has a secondary ignition system in it, lol
