Can anybody recommend a stereo for my 91 cabriolet. Crutchfield only shows me two options that kinda work. I don't like the options.
1)Kenwood KRC 335
2)Alpine iDA X300
Whats working / FITS for you?

Most any standard head unit will fit.

The dash opening is pretty much standard DIN. The main restriction is the depth -- there isn't a lot of room back there.

Crutchfield sucks. Go to http://www.circuitcity.com instead. You'll get a lot more options.

i used to have a clarion for a while (until it smoked out on me), now i have a cheapo durabrand from walmart. no probs w/ fitting it in.

The dash is a standard size for any head unit as Brian mentioned.

Go to a reputable chain and get the one you like best.

If you wwant to add an amp, that will have to go elsewhere.

An interesting idea I have heard is to keep an OEM unit in the dash and have a unit with a remote installed elswhere.

Potential theves will see the OEM unit and think it's not worth their time

I'd reccomend anything from Sony, Kenwood or Pioneer. I've had great luck with all 3 brands (and will all the damn cars I have, all three are represented to this day). Just make sure it has mp3 capabilities (is anything sold without it these days?) and you won't miss normal radio unless your needing the traffic report.

Also, for anyone wanting to add some better sound and a bit of bass to your bunny, just let me know. I've done the entire sound system in the crabby cabby. Cristine couldn't be happier with it and several sound shops thought it was a professional install. I'm not saying I do pro level work, just lucked out in this case. I think Brian can back me up on the crabby cabby having some good sound.

Me I went with the cheap assed One from Wallyworld in 2 of my many rides as it takes SD-flash ram, MP3, and a usb port that excepts thumb drives as well as the aux port for a IPOD. it was only like 80 bucks, and the kiddies couldn't be happier.

The newest one actually plays the title of the song and the radio station that you are listening to.

Me I don't hear so well what with 30 years of marriage, whinny Daughters, and listening to Jet Turbine engines for a while.. So everything sounds good.

I put an Alpine in my car in June. Can't remember the model number off the top of my head right now but it retailed for around $300. Blue tooth, ipod, mp3, satalite radio capible. I wanted it so I could have my XM in the car but when the guy showed me the cable for the Ipod I just had to have a new toy.

I have a Pioneer with an iPod interface in my Crown Vic (which is for sale, incidentally.) Whether or not an iPod interface is worth the money depends a lot on how you use your iPod. They're great if you just want to be able to play playlists and skip forward and back using the controls on the head unit. Most of them are pretty clumsy if you actually want to browse through your music collection, though -- it just takes too long to scroll through the list.

I think this is the model that I bought, looks like it's come down in price too.
