North America Cabby GTG?!?
This idea was brought up over on VWvortex and I thought I'd post something over here too for those who don't frequent Vortex.
What: A national get-together for Cabriolet/Rabbit 'vert owners.
Where: TBA, but somewhere in the mid-west so that both coasts have an opportunity to attend with their Cabs.
When: 2009 or 2010.
Why: To meet & greet other Cabby owners and their cars, why else?!
How: By driving (or towing ) your lovely topless wonder!
So, in order to organize something like this, some info is needed: Would you be seriously interested in attending an event like this? What time of year is best for you (summer, spring) to make a long drive? Where would you be interested in having this event (mid-west locale, please!)?

Kamz, Thanks for bringing this over.
Yes It's a great idea.
Definately in the summer!
Could this become an annual event?
It would be a great way to meet some of you folks.
To move this along, it would probably be a good idea to contact other automotive groups that hold annual meets. Two that come to mind are the Karmann Giha T-34 who have an annual meet in California or the Custom van culture (see Rocky Mountain Vans of Denver) who have an national meet somwhere in the US (different location) every year since the '70s.

Re: National GTG! Yes? No?
It would be a definate "maybe". There are already tons of shows in the Spring, it would be tricky picking a good date without conflict of some of the larger shows. It's also depending on where, of course!

I'm down. I was thinking about driving from Texas to Maryland's H2o International, so a Mid-West show wouldn't be that far in comparison. Hopefully the cabby will be running by 2K9.
We could call the GTG "Tops Not Included".

Re: National GTG! Yes? No?
We just need to set up a time and a place. The midwest is the best.
The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.
Re: National GTG! Yes? No?
Is there any new info on this?
I'm certainly in if it comes together and I'm willing to help set it up.

I am interested as well but the price of gas puts a heavy dampner on any non-essential driving for me.

Re: National GTG! Yes? No?
Since no one else has stepped up to the plate I suppose I'm the one who's taking charge of organizing this thing. Therefore, as CEO of this operation , I'm naming St. Louis, MO as the meeting place (it's the most central, plus there's lots to see and do there).
Now it comes down to where in St. Louis (I've got a list going and will post the choices once I narrow them down) and when (2009 or 2010 and what day/month)... stay tuned.
As always, if anyone wants to lend a helping hand, you're welcome to do so!
And I do agree, the cost of fuel alone is a detriment, especially for those living on or near the coasts, but how often do we have a inter/national Cabby get-together?! If it's planned far enough in advance, we all can start saving up for the trip.

Re: National GTG! Yes? No?
Kami,
Good to see that sombody is taking the bull by the horns.
I would suggest that a web chat/confrence call or something be set up where a plan can be established and a event team/host can be created.
I like the idea of a long lead time (2009/2010) simply because the folks that will put this together live so far apart. Coordination will be the major problem.
Also, instead of National can we say North American giving the event a wider scope.

Soory Kamz I screwed up your post.
I thought I was quoting you.
Any how I am available for chat most any evening.
But I do have visitors coming late next week.
