Suggestions for front seats?
The front seats in my '86 Wolfsburg Edition are in sad shape. The gray and deep red leather is not too bad however the cotton stitching that holds everything together is rotten and giving way. If the leather covers could be removed, perhaps the stitching could be re-done as all the needle track holes are still ok. The padding is also in poor condition. So. . . what's the best idea/s for replacing the whole shootin' match? I'd like to simply bolt in new tracks and some nice new fanny holders. No bling-bling please... I'm too old for going there. Ideas? Thoughts? Experiences? Here in Texas, there's still plenty of top down days but I'm beginning to be embarrassed by my car.

Until you can get your reupholstered, I would recommend some seat covers....I know, I know, not the cheesy Wal-Mart one-size fits all ones, though.
Something like http://www.wetokole.com/ are made for your car, and look really nice. Not to mention the neoprene stands up to the weather well, should you get a leak or it starts raining with the top down.
Here is a sample shot of one of the styles, but you can choose from many:

They'll send you some swatches if you ask nicely. Other than that, there are some kits for upholstry or you can take it to a shop for the permanent and custom fix. Or you can keep your eyes open at the junkyards or classified on the Vortex for an interior. Calimus found a full leather set-both fronts and rears in pristine condition for something stupid like $30!! So keep your eyes open.
