engines and other parts to pull promptly when found?

Post by dfwdiesel »

I go to pick and pulls oftern. In fact one of my favorite activities. I am new to VW's, but am quite fond of getting Mercedes parts, sometimes water cooled Porsches. When buying a car my firt question is;
1) Is the car interesting
2) Is there good pick and pull support?

There are quite a few water cooled VW's, in the Dallas pick and pulls.
What engines and other parts are good to look out for? Sometimes I buy parts for later. Depending on the yard engines are $59 to $175. :?: :?:
thanks,

One of the great advantages of the gasoline VW 4 cylendars - almost EVERYTHING is the same

So many parts are cross-compatable, heads, water pumps, oil pumps, pullies, trannies, most engine blocks (1.8L+ are the same, 1.5-1.7 are the same), most heads (like the blocks)... the list goes on and on

When it comes to more specific items like throttle bodies and fuel injection componants, Cabbies upto 1989 will all be similar, as well as rabbits and jettas through 1984 and Sciroccos.
85 Cab - 1.9L 8v, g-grind, euro dual downs to TT race w/ Borla, VWMS fuel dizzy, 2H tranny with 5th gear swap, TT short shift, FK 60/40, 15" BBS RA, rear disks... begging for boost...

How about 16 valve engine? Or high performance suspensions?
