You bet they are rare. I'm still kicking myself for not buying one when I first bought the car.

Yes they were VW kits and cost about 250 to 300 DM (in Germany in '87/88 ).

I somehow remember them in an aluminum finish. I can't remember if the ski attacment was a seperate purchase for them or not.

I strongly recommend that you keep it and only sell it with the car.

Gee since it is detachable from the car, I wouldn't think it would affect the value of the car (at least that's how the insurance from here would look at it). Where I think it would bring the value is the fact that it is very good condition and so is your car. That would just be the "little extra" come sale time.

I wouldn't even try to guess the value, but I just bought a roof rack for my MK IV Golf and that was $250 (CDN). I guess you could ask that much for it.

Just the same, I'd keep it if I were you, I does help when you go on those trips.

nice rack! (last time I said that i got slapped twice, by the woman walking down the street and my fiancee, even though I was talking about my kayak rack......)

Looks like it might accept thule rectangluar bar attachments / accessories.

wanna sell it? I would love to take my 17' sea kayaks on the roof of my cabby!

Steve opened his own Graphics and Sign store here in Corpus Christi. He does the VW stuff a little here and there on the side too. He is doing well. His son had a 90 raddo with a 2.0 Turbo... got into a wreck (not his fault) got all tore up though. he is doing ok.
