The past week in Car repair

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

The Blue cab got a wash, wax, and vacuum. The Green one got a wash, re-hung the cat, fixing a leaking Oil Pan gasket.

Yesterday, while I was driving Topless Bunny, I noticed the volt meter drop and the battery light started ti illuminate.

No big deal, the brushes on the Voltage regulator are worn out. Since the Alternator in Topless Bunny is a Volleajo (French Made) as opposed to the Bosh that most cars have, it has a different Voltage Regulator (not easy to find). I was prepared for this by having a couple of spares saved in my parts department.

However, O'Toole paid me a visit. (O'Toole's Therum: Murphy was an optimist!) What should have taken me 20 minuets took two hours.

In the end though, it all worked out.

Go to run the Green car and it is missing....there is a slight hesitation, Raining like a cow urination on a flat rock go home and take the blue bunny.
A day later open it up and there is a tick tick tick,,,, yep Distributor cap is got a broken keeper. New cap, tighten a belt, and sounds good.
This morning I get a call from my son-in-law. "Gee dad what is up the car won't go.... Should I have it towed?" No, when he puts in in reverse it won't go, but vibrates and lurched. Rear disk brake e-brake was rusted... Drive over, get the BFH and beat that sucker to loosen, then sprayed TRI-Flow in the Mechanism.

Go home and sleep..

Cleaned up the garage a bit and since I was tearing out the Digi-1 out of the rocco and selling it, I'd go ahead a charge up the battery on the cabby. Hit the key and she fired up on the 3rd try. Which isn't bad since she's been sleeping for close to a year I'd imagine.

Getting closer to top ordering time.

That sinking feeling? Back the car out of the Daughters driveway, and take the foot off the brake and what do you know there was no pedal it had sunk to the floor...... The dam accelerator cable came out of the pedal....

What a pain in the ass to try to blind fit it as I couldn't get under the dash with the seat in the way......
Gee I spose I will need to fix it correctly tomorrow.

Vanagon (over the last few months): Ripped the leaky rear heater out back in January. In May, used up nearly a gallon of coolant going to and from Moab, UT but no visible leaks. Got home from UT, ran an errand a few days later, got out of the van to see a trail of drips on the driveway and coolant pouring out in the garage. The cheap-o T-fitting caps from back in January split open. So, had to replace the T-fittings with straights, something I didn't really want to do. While under there I replaced the kinked front heater return hose and replaced the Digifant Temp II sensor (which was original! ).

^That job was a PITA! :banghead:

Much easier job: Replaced the lackluster original "kitchen" light with an LED strip + dimmer switch.

Now I can see what I'm cooking on the stove! Another strip will be added over the rear seat this weekend.

This week: The Cabriolet will be back on the road... I hope :D ; finally getting down and sweaty (yeah, it's humid here; yesterday it was 50%!) with her trans.

Well had to have the son open the hood of my cabby, I am on restriction for 6 weeks.
Had to remove the alternator and drill the lock hole to get a bolt through it as it stripped and was slipping. so that I could bolt washer and lock washer and nut it.

Decided that the battery in Posh Bunny was about all played out, so I purchased a new one and installed it.
All the cars here seem to be operating fine, I hope it stays that way for a while.

Shifting beautifully again. Odd thing though: It didn't take even 2 quarts to fill, when Bentley says it should be around 2.1. Plus, despite leaking, the trans was still full... so full it began flowing out of the fill hole... which means I could've been driving her all those months. :screwy:

At any rate, she's back on the road! Top is scheduled for replacement this fall (finally!).

Well, replaced the white oil pressure sensor on the blue.
Cleaned all the mold off the interior of the green, washed waxed and vacuumed it.
Cleaned the Engine Bay.

Yep placed the green one on Craigs list.... Had to, I had two more stents placed in my heart, and well I have to start cutting back on things....up to 9 now.
