That's what I thought. I'll build one at the shop tomorrow, one of the perks of being a machinist, lol.Briano1234 wrote:You need a press for the mount.

Well you need to machine us a new mount... one that is easier to change and the bracket doesn't have to be removed from the car... that would be sweet and the world would beat a path to your door.GREENGOLF wrote:That's what I thought. Re: Stinky Bunny v.1.6d
I have a spare and was looking at it. The problem there is if I chop it, then we're gonna have to drill and tap the motor for 2 more bolts. If I build this press cheap enough, we could send it around. I'll keep one here in Md and send one down to you. I think it'll be easy if I just make a squeeze press and see how that works. I'm a cheap SOB, I used to drive Suzuki Samurais and you WILL NOT find a cheaper group of people than Zook owners, lol.
Not a lot accomplished today other than to get the carcass onto the trailer and the new front snubber mount installed. I have a new rubber trans mount on order and I should get the rack done tomorrow, waiting on a tie rod end for that. I'ma drain the erl out of the trans and motor tomorrow and refill with synthetic. I have a jug of Delvac here and some Redline for the trans. Patrick from the Vortex came over today and showed us his swap, gonna follow his lead and use the Cabby harness like he did. Might try to lure him back out with another steak dinner.

One of the benefits of having a small 12ton press in the garage. Brian, if ya need to press mounts, just give me a call. You know the drill, me casa su casa.
As for Kuklaki and I, we just got back from a weekend in Savannah to celebrate our 9th anniversary. Tomorrow will see some normal maint, on the beetle and possibly some maint on #2 rocco.

We're still plugging away, going to get as much done this weekend as we can. The Golf decided it needed some work on it so the Cabby took the back seat. I also built the press, gonna give that a whirl tomorrow after I repair the motor mount, replace the brake lines and drop the fuel cell out from under the Cabby.

Re: Stinky Bunny v.1.6d
Brake line is done, have to change the soft line on the other side. The steering rack is in, the motor mount pressed in ON THE MOTOR .
You don't need to take it off, I built a small press, but it needs a revision and the addition of some hardened all thread. I stretched it and snapped the all thread twice, not too happy bout that.
Metal flying too close to the wedding tackle makes me a tad antsy, lol.
Tomorrow will be getting the steering done, brake line on the driver's side and if there's time, the fuel cell gets dropped and the GTi rear beam installed since I have to drop this one.

Well, hit another bump in the road. I was going to change the rear axle bushings and the steel bushing is rust welded to the bolt.
I'm going to go over to the shop and turn it off the bolt since trying to find a damned M14X160mm bolt is almost impossible and they are no longer available from my parts houses locally.

I might have a set of those bolts laying around. I'll check and let you know.

Re: Stinky Bunny v.1.6d
Already fixed it. It's nice to have a lathe and the know how to fix things, lol. So here's where we stand. Eco on the trailer sitting in the back yard, rear axle beam ready to be reinstalled and not enough time to do a damned thing, lol!!Calimus wrote:I might have a set of those bolts laying around. Re: Stinky Bunny v.1.6d
I wish someone sold the engine mount already pressed into the bracket, on a core exchange basis. I'd pay a premium for not having to leave the car apart while I try to find somewhere to press the old one out and the new one back in.

TTtuning has one that is assembled for 90 bucks. But what I had to do is source a new mount bracket and have it pressed in before I did the deed.gull wrote:I wish someone sold the engine mount already pressed into the bracket, on a core exchange basis. Times like this make the wrecking yards a good place to visit.
On a side note.
Acting on a tip from Ron, I replaced the rear side Allens with grade 8 hex bolts, and that makes it a hell-of-a-lot easier to get them things in and out.....

Thanks, that's very useful info. Didn't think to check those sites, for some reason; I knew Bus Depot and Parts Place didn't have them.

I'll get a pic of the press this weekend. It's raining and my sinuses are HOWLING right now so I dunno how much we're gonna get done this weekend. Might be a Darvocet and screw the pain kinda weekend, lol. I have a spare mount if anyone needs one for the 1.6d.

Re: Stinky Bunny v.1.6d
The new BFI control arms showed up today as did the new fuel line for M's 90. I'ma be BUSY BUSY BUSY this weekend, lol. Hopefully I can get the front end done on Stinky and the fuel cell drained and the diesel neck installed. Then trouble shoot the no start on the Eco before I rip it out and transplant it into Stinky.
