Not to insult your intelligence, but you did make sure all the studs were fully in, right? I've had those studs back out a bit so the shoulder wasn't tight against the head. That's easy to miss, and it creates a nice gap for oil to leak through. Then the valve cover warps when someone tries to torque it down hard to fix the leak.

If the cover really is warped, you can probably get a straight one from a junkyard. They were used on approximately 1.2 bazillion VW engines, including all the 1.6L diesels.

Studs were good, I did check those to be sure as I've had that happen before.

No I figure when I put that motor together 3 years ago, I was a moron and warped the VC. It's ok though, I have spares, just need to sand them down and paint.

Naw, gonna paint it the same color it was as it's color matched to the car, heh. I will have to admit that I had to think about your suggestion for a min.

But a bright red valve cover is worth 5 extra horsepower! Chrome is worth 10. Don't you read the ricer magazines?

Gee, I guess I know who cleaned that bay.... as i remember seeing pics..

I remember exactally how my diesel's valve cover got warped...

It was sitting on the garage floor, and I was timing the engine, and my daughter drove her tricycle over a bunch of bubble wrap,,,, need less to say, I jerked back, popped the prop rod out of the holder and stepped on my valve cover and as it was sitting on an uneven floor it warped, as the hood came down and slammed shut at the same time that my heel was depressing on the top of the valve cover.....

Took me 2 years of scavaging the wrecking yards to find one that was warp free.

Well, so far I don't see any oil leaking from the VC, so it looks as though the double stack is doing it's job.

An yes, Cristine did clean the engine bay, however, I cleaned the motor.
