engine compartment lighting
has anyone installed any engine compartment lights? what i've been thinking of doing is running a few (2 or 3) lights and mounting them via magnet onto the underside of my hood and having a flip switch so i can see when i'm messing with my and light isn't available) and move them when needed. the electrical stuff isn't a problem, i'm just not sure what type of lights to use, i don't want anything that will drain my battery real quick, but i want enough light to see.

I've been reading online about LED lights for 12V applications. It was on a Landcruiser forum and I don't remember the vendor but I'll see what I can find. I would think LED would be the way to go, bright and they should last forever.

I like the magnet mount idea, That would provide a nice means to move the light to a place where you need it.theonlychuck wrote:. the electrical stuff isn't a problem, i'm just not sure what type of lights to use, i don't want anything that will drain my battery real quick, but i want enough light to see.
I would suggest using something that would use a brake light bulb or two. Those bulbs are usually rated about 20 Watts. and use a 5A fuse for circuit protection. That would provide lots of light for "emergency" use and wouldnt be too hard on the battery.
Let us know how you make out.
