SOS new day

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

SOS new day

Post by Briano1234 »

Well took the bunny to get the emissions inspected...and it failed again....go figure. Another bad cat....but there is good news..

According to NAPA
there are 3 differnt quality of cats
good 70.00
better 110.00
best 194.00

Well as I under stand it, the 70 dollar one of my choice is only good for 6 months.

So here is the plan....Take the old one off, give it a good break up so it is an additional resonator, mount the new one, get it tested, then remove and replace.

Sounds like a plan to me lol

A 6 month cat, sounds like a load of BS to me. Being that on a lot of new cars, cat's are welded in place, getting a 6mo cat would piss me right off.

However, aside from the jetta, all my cats are removeable so what the hell. Hollow that damn thing out, shove a high quality one in, pass the test and slap the hollow one back in, instant release of a horse or 3. Should make a nice noise too.

Checked all the previous tests, including the ones that failed, and the only fix for the high reading was a new cat. I changed the cap plugs rotor wires filter and oil, it failed the 02 sensor and it failed, retared the timing it failed, then replaced the cat and it passed. Fortunatly for me i wrote what each one failed with so I could see what kinds of things really affected it....

I suppose I should post all my readings and what I had done....to get it down.... for a FAQ. Maybe later.....

Well to add insult to injury, I had them weld the cat on.........SHEEEEEEEIT, I got the car up on ramps, and looked at it... Well tomorrow I go buy all the crap to hook it up....

Day 2...

Went and bought me a new sawz-all.....Loaned mine to my brother in California....

Cut the old cat off and found out why it failed... There was nothing left inside of the pipe...it was hollow.......doh........

got the new one mounted and installed...This one is clamped, I won't have them weld this one on...

ps. I have a perfect piece of pipe for later. lol

day2.5....took the rabbit off the ramps, and I now have a vibration on the frame, so i spose I gotta replace the motor mount now...lol I couldn't replace it earlier because of the no clearance in the exhaust....so i applied a little creative leverage...bent the snot outta it.....lol if it ain't one thing it's another.

Day 3..... Drive my son LZB to school this morning, and as I down shifted at the stop after dropping him off, gee one of the pipes on the new cat came off, and I was running without any exhaust. Nothing more thrilling than hearing a 4cyl engine with no exhaust restrictions at 6:30 am. Now I gotta go back and fix it prior to getting to the inspection station....Sheeeeeeeit.

All of this is because I jacked one of Kammy's thread in the vortex.....I promise i will never do it again, well maybe untill next time.

I'm running a hollow cat on my daughter's Mk3 Jetta. She and I like the sound. Everytime FBG gets in it she tells me there is something wrong with the exhaust. Can't please em' all.
