Today in my zeal to get my car inspected I changed the oil and have the mobil1 filter installed so far no flakey idle light.... I also Slick 50'ed the car.
My idle speed increased 200 rpm, and I took it for a cruise and at 80 I noticed a decrease in oil pressure from 4.5 to 3.5, it ran a tad cooler on the oil temp, and the water temp, seemed to have a little bit more spunk....and a little more quiet.
This is about the same thing I noticed on my Diesel bunny back in 82 when I added it then, and all my other cars too.
Oh yes I am running 20w50 Castrol as I usually do this time I didn't add Lucas Oil additive.....

Slick 50 is something I swear by. I've used it on all my modes of transportation. It's great for lowering the temps and preventing lockdown should you ever over-heat. That said, I wouldn't run 100 miles on an over heated motor to test it out, but it can certainly save some major wear and tear if you shut down quickly.
In the dubs I haven't seen it drop as much temp as it has in my Toyota's, but then again, the dubs were designed to run much hotter then many other car types.

William I agree, Slick saved my Diesel bunny 3 times. Once with a broken radiator, drove 70 miles home before noticing it...Once with a broken return jug...in winter, only when the engine temp started to go to nothing and I had no heater. Lastly my wife drove from norcross to mobile and back with no oil cap on the car..Long before VW ever put the valve cover fix on.... When she got back home there was 1 pint of oil left in the car and a full filter...This alone made it worth the purchase price. She said that tehre was no power loss with the A/C running at highway speeds. I had to clean a hell of a mess up.....oil was everywhere.
My brother used to sell the stuff, and he had a 3.5 techumshe engine running at his show with no oil in it, and a piece of plexi-glass over the shafts so you could see no oil. He still has that engine today, 20 years later and it still runs for hours with no oil....
Does it work...yep, can it save your engine? yep. When the timing belt slipped a tooth, at 160k and drove the piston through the head, I took it apart, and there was no scaring on the walls of the cyls. I could keep oil in the cyls with out leakage down, and the sides of the pistons looked new. The intake side of the head was the same way cept for the big hole on the number 2. I had to toss the engine but it made me very sad to do so..... Bought a whole nother diesel bunny for 500, and swapped the engine in it. First thing I did, was slick that sucker too....put 240K total on that engine before I sold it.

very cool info. My dad obviously started me on the s50 habbit as he saw it demonstrated at a world fair back in the day. He's used it ever since, so therefore it's a habbit I picked up. Need to slick the new bunny, but first it's going to get a normal change of 20-50 to help clear out the brown water that the PO had put in it last time.
Even though I planned on changing the oil tomorrow, I thought maybe it was a little low and thats why I was getting some oil light flicker at full temp while at idle. Checked, was only 1/2 a quart low. However, I noticed that the oil looked great, but ran off the dipstick faster then blue-ice falling from an airliner. Talk about some thin stuff, my guess is 10-30. I added half a quart of 20-50 told holder her over and noticed about a 10 degree difference in temp an highway speeds and no oil light flashing at me when sitting at a light. So, she's getting a full pan of 20-50 tomorrow and then at 3k miles, she'll another patch of 20-50 mixd with some slick.
BTW, for those that don't know, you only replace 1 quart of normal oil with a quart of slick 50. I've run into folks that though you used all slick 50 rather then oil and thats a major no-no.

Oh the humanity of it all...oil shooting out of the exhaust, the carb. after he tried to start it one time.....oooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh
it was a 66 baracuda......

I use Slick 50 in everything also. I have never had the misfortune of testing it and I hope I never do. Every motor I have torn down that has used it is beautiful inside. Machine marks are still in the cylinder walls, bearings look good. The stuff appears to do exactly what they say it does.
