Where do I find the rear cable for the top?

Post by dubchickshubby »

I've got my replacement top (black 'natch) and while starting to strip the car down to prepare for the job, I noticed that the cable that runs around the base of the top is rotted through! :x
Now I've got to locate a replacement cable. Cabrioworld (where I got the top) doesn't list this item. The rear cable they show is the one with springs.
Any suggestions?!?!

i just measured the length of the cable i had, added an extra foot for good measure and bought a hunk of cable. then i bought 2 u clamps and two eye screws that were the same diameter as the ends of the old cable. loop the new cable through the end of each eye screw and clamp it down (making sure to cover the end of it with something or position it so the screw ends of the u clamp do not face the top (where the top folds down) and bolt it down like it was a regular cable. granted you feed the wire through the slits in the top before clamping it to the eye screws. viola new rear cable. mine's been like that for a year and is still holding up fine =]

I used to do the same thing to clutch cables when we did dune buggy conversions. Shorten the chassis and the clutch cable became a foot too long. Cut the cable and slide the ends over each other and clamp down. Worked well, I think I still have some clamps left over from those. Good tip Chuck.
