Springs/shocks
I finally got my Shine Racing coil springs last week, sent Dad down to Mass. to pick them up. Nice powder blue coating. I put the rears in last night and backed them up with some new Boge Turbo Gas shocks. Very sweet, not too stiff but you can definately tell a change was made. The best part is the rubbing is GONE. Hopefully the parts store will get the front Boge's in today and I'll install the fronts tonight and get it aligned tomorrow morning. I'm like a kid at Christmas, I just can't wait to see what it's gonna do.

Put the fronts in Friday night, had an alignment done Saturday morning. Huge difference! I can take corners 10 to 15MPH faster now than I could before. Very stiff but not to harsh. These springs are everything Dick Shine said they would be. I would recommend this combination to anybody that was looking for performance with no drop. I'm really looking forward to some stress bars to see what they will do. Unfortunately, now I can overdrive my brakes and I'm looking for more power in the corners. Just have to keep throwing money/parts at it.

As far as brakes go, I've been very impressed with the ATE power disks in combination with the Mintex "Red" pads. I put them on my 16v rocco and I haven't been dissapointed a single time. Stopping performace is much better and much more controlable.

How about a larger size, something like the conversion on the air cooled Beetles where you took the spindles and calipers off of a Type 3 and bolted them to the Beetle? (I may be dating myself here) Is there anything like that for these cars? I would like to go up an inch or two in diameter and be cross drilled and use a larger pad. I think that set-up would leave no doubt. I've seen some conversions for the Mk2 on up but nothing for the Mk1. I'm currently looking for a Scirroco that I can buy and swap the rear disc into my Cabby. Are there any particular years I should be looking for, My transmission is a little noisy when not under power so I thought if I bought a whole car I could piece it out into mine. Transmission, rear suspension and brakes, maybe a 16V motor, I dunno, you guys seem to be doing a lot of this and I figured I would ask the question. Oh. I need front seats, something with a lot of lumbar support also.

sounds like you need a 16v rocco donor car. 10.1 front brakes, rear disk, great seats, 16v motor and close ratio trans.
but please get one that can't be repaired. i would hate to see a good one stripped out for parts...there getting rare!

87-88. Only years that the 16v came in except for maybe the very rare 86 16v that shouldn't really exist. And like lowcab said, please rape one that has no chance of being brought back to life, as a 16v rocco owner, I hate seeing rocco's that still have a chance at life get stripped and fed to the crusher

I have a 91 Cabby so I don't know if your exact spring combination would work for me. I believe my car is a little heavier. I want to put the car back exactly the way it originally was designed. I do not want to lower it or change anything. I know there is a lot of talk in other forums about suspeinsions but I just want someone to straight out tell me. I don't have a clue about struts. springs and shock absorbers. I know I could walk in to the VW dealer and supply my own vasaline but I need to know who, what , where, when and does she have a sister. Is there someone out there that can say, yes, you need such and such brand and you need this size or number. I want front struts and rear springs / shocks.
Yea, come on.
Yea, come on.

Bubster, you and I have the same car. If your looking to stiffen it up without dropping it you need to use Shine Racing springs with Boge Turbo Gas shocks and struts. I did this to my Cabby last year and it is amazing. Springs were $230.00 for all four and you can get the struts/shocks anywhere. My car is available for a test drive if you can find your way to Maine.

Hey, Thanks for the invite to test drive and the good advice. I think I will take your recommendation on the springs and shocks. As far as the test drive, that will not be soon. I am a workacholic.
I get yearly vacations with my day job but my at-home job is far more demanding. It is almost like I am on call everyday. I program refrigeration controllers for large grocery store chains. (Yes even the Super "W" word). I write the programs for new stores but if there is a system failure, anywhere in the world, I have to get real and get the refrigeration systems back up and running. Some stores carry hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of refrigerated product and it is only backed up with a watch battery. If the battery is old and there is a momentary loss of electrical power then the system becomes brain dead. Hey, great design, right? Well, I don't design them, I just program them.
If it were not for me, there would be very little cold beer in the world, so I'm serving a useful purpose to humanity.
Among other things, you are helping to keep Cabbys on the road! Thanks

Average price on quality components for front and rear struts/shocks and springs would be in the neighborhood of $500.00 give or take all together. Some assembly required.
