Wiring question - using a different gauge wire and one fuse box question

I want to rewire the car (slow process, but I'm going to try).

Is there any issue with going with 14 gauge wire (except those that require larger, of course)? I'm going to attempt doing all the grounds first and thought I'd replace the original with 14 instead of (what I think) is 16 or 18. (I do NOT intend to mix and match on anything).

Fuse box question - I don't want to pull out the fuse box just yet, but have no idea what the connectors from the looms look like.

Is this the correct type connector (81 Rabbit Convertible with ceramic fuses):

Don't know, never owned a Ceramic fused Rabbit/Cabriolet. I thought that the fuse panel used round pins in the connectors.

Is it ok to replace all the wiring with 14 gauge?

ETA - after hearing from others, it sounds like 14 isn't the way to go - may be too large for the fuse pins. So it'll just be 16 or 18.

Depends on what current track you are in. 16 is used for most Dash wiring, where as Cigarette Lighter is 14, 16, 18, are for most things, but high current is heavier gauge. Kammy at www.cabby-info.com has the conversion for the metric over SAE as in 1.5 to what.
