If it were me I would take it back with the orginal and make them get the right one.

Had that happen to me on a Super Beetle... when I called the parts vendor, they said yep, break off the extra leg.
I did, it fit and worked fine.

One of the years changed the style of the switch. I would suspect that you have the wrong year of switch. I can't remember the year but Kammy to the rescue:

Two different headlight switches were used in Cabriolets. If you're replacing the switch, use the information below to ensure you're buying the correct one! For example, AutohausAZ lists the 321-K switch for a 1990 Cabriolet, which is the wrong one!

The original switch on the right is part #323941531G. That's the part # that was on the ebay auction. The listing also claimed it was a Genuine OEM VW part and included a picture of a VW/Audi box in the background. I received this hunk of crap in a zip-lock bag. Here's the auction.

I suggest you send Mk I Autohaus an e-mail with the picture you have above, and ask him if it is possible he sent you the wrong one. He is usually pretty good about the stuff he sells, so it might be a simple mixup on his end.

In the meantime, I'll check my parts department and see if I have the one you want (I usually try to grab them at the auto wreckers ).

Glad you got that sorted out. But I did check what I have on hand.

Turns out I have three.

(Just to keep things short, I will just use the last four digits in the part number)

Two are 531 K and one is 531 G.
All three have the same physical pin set up as the one on the left in your picture.

They appear to be electrically the same. The only difference is the icon on the switch face. The 531 G has the old style headlight symbol where the 531 K the icon is more like a light bulb.

It appears the 531 K is also the one installed in my '87 and is still the original one.
This is a bit confusing to me because it doesn't fit with Kamy's reference. Maybe the fact that my cars are both Canadian spec. and the switch change is to do with Transport Canada rules that were in effect for the '87 model year.

This is an instance when you need the entire part number:
Part #321941531K (up to VIN K-009000)
Part #323941531G (from VIN K-009001)
Part #323941531H (Canada DRLs, from VIN K-011306)

So, 321941531K and 321941531G would be the same, aside from the symbol. The 323-G switch is most definitely different pin-wise from the 321-G switch, and the two are not interchangeable.

I knew there was a change in the symbols, but didn't know they changed the part number suffix too; so thanks for that, Phil. I'll get it added to Cabby Info with the next update.

So, no blaming Canada this time.
