Where did the Cabbies go??

Post by bLac K aBriOleT89 »

Don't know what happened in my area but I use to see cabbies more often...I know, It has never been a cabby paradise or something similar like the West Coast or Florida, but I use to see, at least, let say one or two here and there.
But over the last year or so, I have seen none, zero, nada. I saw a red 87 in a local shop meet that is being rescued, and one of the shop owners owns a 87 too, but those don't count! I also had located a red/white top (pre 88) in my neighborhood!, don't see it anymore in that driveway.

That's an interesting comment.

I still see several around here. But you are probably right. On her site, Kamy estimates that of the 388,000 built, and sold world wide, about 1/3 are left.

To the dark side of the question, I did see two of them at my local wrecker on Friday.

They're dropping like flies, Juan. They're getting sent to the junkyards at a nearly record pace. :( But, there's still plenty out there that are probably spending most of their time hiding in their garages.

I saw one on the road in Nor. Ariz. the other day and nearly drove off the road I was in such shock. The only one I ever see around my area is my own... I did see a fellow white '86 Best Seller at the local VW shop when I picked my van up; that poor Cab was in pretty rough shape.

I'm not so sure Kamz,

If anything I have seen quite a few around here lately. Even at Das Volks we had six of them in each of the last two years and the only return cars were my two.

It could be a local thing, but they are still here :D

Well after two years, yes, two years! Finally saw an EA edition in a mall parking lot! Not the best example, but hey...a cabby is a cabby!

I see a few sprinkled on my commute every so often. It's good to see them out there still. I've begun clearing out the garage finally (how did I get soooo much crap?) so that I can start back on the cabby and get Mr's TRF Admin back in her favorite toy.

Well, there's an '87 just around the corner from me, I keep going by to see if he's home.

As crazy as things go, we seem to have quite a few here. We started a new club and we have at least five cubby’s (not counting my two). My buddy just got a great deal on an ‘89 that he is picking up this weekend.

He has two dead ‘80s and an ‘84 that’s close to revival at his farm.

There is a big car show next week and we are going to try to get as many cabbys to go as we can find.
