No power to my fuel pump

Post by Odanatahums »

I bought a 1985 cabby. When we got it, someone had run a big wire from the fuse box to the wiring harness by the back seat kick and spliced in to the fuel pump wire. Not liking mickey mouse stuff I've decided to try and fix it.I checked the fuel pump wire, it has continuity from the pump to the fuse box plug. The relay has power to two legs but does nothing when the key is turned on. The fuse (#5) doesn't have power to either side. This seems to be the only electrical problem . Does anyone have any suggestions?

Check for corrosion on the back side of the fuse panel.
The relay gets is power from the coil/ecu.
At engine start there is a 4 second prime for the relay to power.
If the engine isn't running then there is no pulsed signal to turn the relay on.
The relay isn't on full time, but pulsed from either the Coil or the Hall generator (ignition control module).
Since at run it seems to be a constant 12V it is a little misnomer.

Still no luck with this. I've jumpered it and the fuel pump works. I have a brand new relay and I just don't know what to do next. ?

Check your coil wire... easy to knock off.
If the relay isn't getting power to the pick side that is your issue as jumpering it is fine.
So you have to back up and see where the pick should be, and where it is stopping.
