Another newbie here
Good afternoon everyone. I have a 1988 Rabbit Convertible (Cabriolet) One recurring question I have is are they one in the same creature...in other words, are all Rabbit Convertibles Cabriolets? If not, can you give me an easy way to tell which I have? Im looking to restore this as I go and am looking forward to input from the more experienced sector. ps...Ive had Bugs since 1965. Chaio

The short answer is yes/no.
They were originally called Rabbit Convertibles. They then changed the name to Cabriolet to differentiate it in the model stream. Your 88 is a VW Cabriolet. Which is also a Mk1 which is more or less a GTI, but not badged as such, which is also a Rabbit.
I have had to use a 83 VW GTI when I go to the parts store looking for rotors. They list the 93 as a single rotor car, and the pads won't fit unless you take the vented rotors off and swap them for single.

As brian has directed you to Cabby-Info, I will add that Kammy has lots of good information there. I have both an '87 and an '88. There is lots of good friendly help here so I hope we will hear more from you soon.
Please post a picture of your car.
Thanks.
