Barn Find on the road again!

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

Barn Find on the road again!

Post by Autonut »

Still needs some interior TLC and I need to find some body trim, but it's ready for some summer time cruising.

That looks GREAT!

As far as body trim goes, you will have to keep an eye on your local wreckers.

There used to be a good yard just north of Belleviille, called Hopkins. Is it still there?

If worse comes to worse you can always check out Dom's. I know that is a bit of a road trip.

The is yard is still there, but Harold retired. With new owners and new name. It's not as big or good as it once was. There are a few good yards across the bay in the County that doesn't crush and one north of Stirling, Ont. ( The New Hockeyville ) called Woodbecks.

Mine is a 80 with the 1.6L / 5 Speed. I have the trim for the drivers side, but need the passengers side.

I picked up a couple of add on's for my toy. ( Now known as "The Raggit" Rabbit + Rag Top = Raggit )
The rims on it now are 13". The New ones ( New to me ) are 15". I'm guessing I'm going to need some low profile tires.
As for the fog lights, I'll have to find a OEM switch and then get them wired up. :D

It's very, very hard to find a fog light switch for these cars. most just use a relay that energizes off the high beam.

What I did for one of mine, was take a rear window defogere switch and a little black paint. I painted over the symbol on the switch.

I highly suggest that you use a relay controlled by the switch to power the lights.

I have a set of 15s on one of my cars and they work great. They actually fit rather nicely. If you want, I'll post the tire size.

It's good you found some nice wheels like that, most of the mfrs. have stopped producing decient 13" and 14" tires.

Sure Phil

The size is just what I need. Can you also post a picture of what the 15's look like on yours?
I do have an extra rear defogger switch. Great idea.
I got this how to wire foglights diagram from a sister site.

Thanks for the info.

Here are my two cabbys. The blue one has the 15" BBS wheels.

The tires are Fuzion ZRi I believe the size is 195-50ZR15 I wanted 205s but they didn't have any in stock.

Fuzion, by the way are, are made by Bridgestone for the "tuner" market, but they don't do any advertising to keep the price down.

By the way I am looking for some centre caps for it. they need to be 52 mm I believe.

The drawing you posted is a good way to connect the switch and relay.

The rims I picked up are after market EMR's. The last owner just siliconed the VW center caps in place.

Randy
All MK I, MK II, and MK III VWs have a 4 X 100 bolt pattern. Most were delivered with 13" or 14" wheels. My '87 came with 13" steel wheels, if I had ordered the alloy wheels they would have been 14".

The way I understand it, 15" wheels were delivered on some models as an option. These were usually BBS wheels (my set has a VW part number on them). When I was researching tires for Posh Bunny last year, most tire mfrs. list 15" wheels for Cabriolets as an optional wheel size.

So in the end, all you need to do is find a nice set of alloy wheels with a 4 X 100 bolt pattern. Oh I should mention that 4 X 100 is a very common wheel size, not only do the fit VWs, but are also found on Japanese cars like Honda and Toyota. This is a good thing, it makes it easy to find wheels that fit.
